Going up to Cincinnati next week for the day. I want the best chili this town has to offer. Any suggestions? Thanks
You gotta have an acquired taste for that three way Skyline chili. Go-Karter brought me some one time and that stuff's like a neutron bomb to you intestinal tract. :wow: Man, it was good though!!
It really isn't chili at all, it's pasta with a spicy meat sauce and shredded cheese on it... Most people seem to prefer Skyline, but I like Goldstar better myself. I have heard that Empress is the best of them all, but unlike Skyline and Goldstar, there isn't one on every corner so I've never tried it. One warning: I know of alot of folks that hated it the first time they tried it (if you are expecting Texas style chili, it ain't that) but for whatever reason woke up within a day or so and actually CRAVED it. Led to my theory that one of the secret ingrediants is a highly addictive drug.... Try a 3,4 or 5 way (if you like beans and onions) and a coney dog.
I thought it was Cinnamon. Whatever it was, me no likey. Gimme spicy Texas chili any day!
Being from Cincy originally I think Skyline is the best of "Cincinnati Style Chili." For those of you who have never eaten any, the chili is actually more of a meat sauce than what you normally think of as chili. The secret ingredients are differing amounts of chocolate, cinnamon, cloves and bay leaves depending on the company. Traditional Cincinnati chili speak... Chili and Spaghetti - exactly as it says 3 Way - Chili, Spaghetti and finely shredded American Cheese 4 Way - A 3 Way with onions added 5 Way - A 4 Way with red beans added Chili and Cheese - exactly as it says no spaghetti All of the above are served with oyster crackers Coney - small hot dog (usually no longer than 4") with chili Cheese Coney - A coney with cheese (duh) Both will normally have a small amount of mustard with onions available on request. Definately a treat and good eating. Everytime we go back "home" we have to stop and get some.
Hey Carbon Can Cat, two weeks ago my mother sent me 15 pounds worth a skyline chilli. I'm good to go until summer:up: Definately a place I HAVE to go when in Cincinnati.
Chili is, Red Beans Beef Tomatoes Jalapenos Spices to your liking Thank You. My chili will blow your can off
Just Monday we had a salesman I work with and an art director come here to the Cincy home office for a press check on printing $200K worth of signs, they are from Dallas and Houston. Sales Manager took us to the Gold Star down the street - they LOVED it, both had 3 ways - thought it was the greatist thing ever. They would have REALLY flipped over Skyline....
Camp Washington Chili, FTW. Of course it means you need to visit the west side. Otherwise, I'd stick with Skyline. John
camp washington Camp washington is by far the best, can't remember the road it's on but it is right off I-75. In the hood!
