Can anyone identify this old “Daytona” brand gizmo?

276BF9A3-0EE8-47C5-B844-3577F30FA626.jpeg It came on a 1994 racebike I recently picked up. One wire of the harness was wrapped around one of coil leads, as if it were a digital tach or hour meter. But, there’s no display! The sensor looks like it’s for a lap timer; I think it had been taped to the top of the front fender.

The screw on the box is plastic and looks to be for an electric adjustment.

Hint: the bike did not have a tach, unless it disappeared in the crash that convinced the PO to park the bike.

    I’m stumped!
