"I have to stand up here because my mother couldn't get an abortion" Maxine Waters, at the abortion rights rally last week in D.C.
that is hilarious, and one can only wonder what the context was... I am reminded of an old quote from Gloria Steinem, not brilliant in the same sense, but one to make you go hmmmm. "If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament."
Oh Boy, I couldn't resist... HE'S BACK!!!That's right, I've returned from...errr... the dead, yes that's right, the debate will indeed "get nasty" to use your words. So I'll throw in my two cents for what that's worth: The Supreme Court, in the Roe v. Wade case, didn't give one flyin fig about whether or not lives were being taken by a medical procedure (abortion). The case hung on the issue: did an unborn "person" (the language of the Court) have legal rights (thus proection) under the U.S. Constitution? And the Court determined that there was no such protection for an unborn person. Period. That's the law of this land, agree or not. Many agree, many do not. All types of moral persuasion will fail in the harsh light of Constitutional scrutiny...the power of the state to regulate and control our private lives must be checked and itself controlled by the judiciary...any comments???
I took is it as the thread was swinging towards the first. If it is the latter I can take off my nomex underwear.
Hundreds of years from now, when they print-off the internet and read it - people will point at this thread and know where civilization took a wrong turn.....
But it ain't a true WERA BBS thread unless it is hijacked! I reserve the right to use that quote in my signature!
