    Keith,

I'm the EX500 rider that broke my collarbone too...fortunately mine doesn't require any surgery.

I'll look you up at the next NC round. I'll see if my buddy can print up 2 shirts that say the Nelson Collarbone Fracture Twins. We're kinda like fraternal injury brothers...maybe the Vicoprofen is making me a little goofy...

Good luck on the surgery...I'll be in touch

    puresportsdesigns Yea, I guess

    Keith,

I hope everything heals well and fast. Did you go to St. Josephs Hospital in Warren? That is where Erin went. Nurses seemed to be really nice - until they put the clavical strap on him. At least they warned him that is was going to hurt.

    Take care

    GET WELL SOON!!!!!

Not sure If I remember you due to me having many crashes. LOL!! :D

Anyway, get well soon and I remember my days of the procoset. I could feel no pain and was walking one week after ACL surgery. Slowly, but walking and riding one month later. This was after getting off the procoset and working out hard.

    Update on Keith

okay... i'm going to try this one again.

i'm writing to give everyone an update on keith. i just left the hospital. in case you're wondering, this is "susan" writing this message -- his wife. he's doing fine but the surgery took longer than expected, about 2 1/2 hours. the fracture was worse than the surgeon originally thought. they put a plate almost the entire length of the bone with 6 (or 8 ?) screws placed along it -- except in the middle where we have a problem -- no bone to attach anything to, only fragments. the surgeon has told me that he will have to keep the arm immobile for 3-4 weeks in order for it to heal. as you can imagine, that will be very difficult for keith (and me too!). we should know more when we meet with the doctor again in a couple of days.

keith should be discharged tomorrow and i'm sure he'll be on the wera bbs soon.

i want to thank everyone for your phone calls, emails and postings. you have really touched our hearts. we are so blessed to have all of you in our lives.

    susan

by the way, i've never posted anything on the bbs before so hopefully i'm doing this right this time...

    Re: Update on Keith

Tell Keith everyone at Wera & Fasttrax are pulling for him to recover in record time so we can start to give him crap at the track once again. :D

Hang in there even if its by one arm...

    Drive on.....

Might want to ask about an electronic bone stimulator. My doctor prescribed one for my foot to hopefully speed healing. I've heard from several folks that they work and one that it didn't, so at least most responses were positive.

Then again, with a metal plate, the whole electromagnetic field thing might not pan out, but it's worth asking. Anything to get healed up faster was a plus in my book.

thanks susan for the update. we're all pulling for keith up here. if he thinks this is going to get him out of the summer football game he's out of his mind. :D
keep hi still even thogh i know it's impossible.
btw, i ordered an electronic bone stimulator from a magazine once, but it wouldn't fit on my arm.........

Rob, I don't know if you're joking about some kinky porno device or are really serious. But I'll assume the latter for now. The device I'm talking about you can't order. It's a class 3 medical device and requires a doctor's prescription to get. It's also about $2500, give or take.

My doctor arranged mine and it was delivered to my house by a rep for the company. That alone told me this sucker isn't cheap. ;) It's also only good for 400 days and then it will no longer function (James Bond self-destruct mechanism inside?).

But it's supposed to help bone growth, so I use it every day. We'll see if it helps or not.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery, but remember bones take time to heal. Listen to the docs, and hope to see you both again soon.

Sorry I wasn't there Keith. Heal well and see you soon. I hung the picture and letter you sent me in my living room. I had them framed as I thought your gesture served to remind me to look back and see how far we have come. My work has only started as this thread shows. Much still to be done.
    See you soon,

Empty Pockets Racing where's my collar bone?

    one last update....
(then we can put this string of posts to rest!)

once again, i want to thank everyone for all the calls, e-mails, posts, etc. you guys/gals are truly the best.

i can't type much before the pain comes, but surgery is complete and hopefully, i'm on the road to recovery (with a few less bones and a few more pieces of metal).

surgery took over 2 hours and was a little worse than expected. but, the ortho feels that i should heal up okay (unfortunately, he and i have different target dates for completion!). i'm still kinda restrained, but the drugs are helping.

thanks again to all the cornerworkers, safety crew, ambulance/paramedic crews, and wera for all the help and support.

i've realized that i could never leave racing as it is where i have found the best friends that one could ever wish for. i have found them in all of you.

i also want to thank susan, my wife, for her patience with me in times like this (and others). i know times like these are tough on those who support us and our crazy lives.

once again, i can't say enough. obviously, i can't respond to each and everyone of you (although, i feel like trying). therefore, please stop by the next time you see us out there so i can thank you personally for caring.

i hope to see you all real soon.

    thanks again,
    keith

One word of advice from someone who's broken themselves several times: follow the doctor's advice religiously. Right now, he's giving you worst-case scenarios on your recovery time. When he says "don't move it for a month," then don't. Don't cheat, not even a little. Duct tape your arm to your chest if you have to. As a racer, you know you can fix any problem with duct tape. :D Now when the doctor turns you loose on the Physical Therapist, then you can get agressive. Then it becomes a question of your willingness to work and your tolerance for pain. But right now you just need to let nature take it's course.
