Aren't there some wine specialists on here?

HATE California syrupy wines. Oregon pinot noir is passable.

Give me a Bordeaux or Sangiovese any day of the week. Even a Chianti will do. Preferably every day of the week thank you :)

Why the wine bigotry? There are wonderful wines from all over the world. Not every wine is right for every situation, but almost all have something to offer (above the Boons Farm and two buck chuck level). Except for White Zin. That shit is an abomination against all that is right and good in the world.

So you want a recommendation? Or just wanna complain about nothing? I can give a few, but can't help with the 2nd. I'm not a Canasewer, but I got a few.

"Here, hold my wine" doesn't have the right "je ne sais quoi." I mean, really, what's about to happen if someone says that?

Vintage guy Mark Morrow, formerly known on here as "Wine Slut" used to work in the industry I believe.

He has changed his login, I think its "RD400Racer" or something like that.

Mark is a good guy, and still pretty fast on those old 2 strokes.

I'm not much on wine, but the wife likes it :) .....I drink it when I run out of beer on sunday afternoon tho.

I'm more of a Martini guy, but not as much as I used to be.

What do you find syrupy about CA wines? Caymus is a well regarded cab, probably not a daily drinker. Throw out some of what you like so we can get a bead. Also, price point. Food with?

Can't get into it myself other than for cooking and for that 2 buck chuck rocks. Only reason I'd ever go into Trader Joes.

    Caymus....over rated and over priced.

Chappellet is better priced and doesn’t require as much time to breathe and is just as good IMO.

While not Uber savy on wine, we drink a fair amount and our friends are collectors (one has over 1600 bottles in his personal collection).

I’m not a fan of whites but If cabs are too syrupy for you, try a CDP or Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Better than a Pinot but not as bold as a cab and gives you some of the earthy flavors of a Bordeaux.

I don't feel the need to criticize other people's preferences. I like the Caymus stick of butter in every bottle velvety texture and taste. Regardless, OP has only mentioned red, and a "thinner" variety. Maybe drifts to spicy?
