Pappy 20 was so much better than any other bourbon I've ever had. I've heard that they started making it somewhere else and the newer releases aren't as good as the original. I don't know the details though. I do know that a glass of 20 costs more than 23 around here if it comes from the original location.
Spoiled myself tonight with an affordable Bordeaux. You see, even in Montana, there is some civility to be found. I'll pair it a bit later with a baguette and (crap, pasteurized) brie imported from Normandy.
Yes, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence are my favorite towns in France. I've had everything on offer there!
I drink it on the rocks so it can be more like water to me. Don't burden myself with the fancy stuff that way and can stick to Old Grand Dad or Buffalo Trace.
Sounds like you know the area? I haven't been due east of Avignon in the hills. Most of my France time has been with the wife in hire cars and we have to avoid the twisty stuff. I did ride my moto from Brest across France to Torino, but I missed the great roads as it was early in the year and I was frozen. One of these days I'll pry myself from the eastern Alps and head west.
What about Michter's? Since it's from Kentucky too. I haven't tried it but a friend who has similar taste said I would probably like it.
Yes, I like it very much. For a reference, Old Forester is my go to. Michter's is somewhat similar in taste but has its own unique flavor. I've toured their distillery while bidding a project and it's very nice. In Louisville a decent bottle will run you around $35-40 while their more exclusive batches are $50 plus. My problem is, when spending $50 on a bottle, I'm getting Old Fo 1910 so I don't drink the Michter's much. But definitely give it a try.
spent a couple of weeks there as a student, traveling with GF in a '74 westfalia camper. "great idea" was to cycle from Avignon to the Pont du gard ... that was pre-gps LOL. on the way back we had to stop for a snickers and a couple of cokes to get sugar in, just to make it back to the campground before dawn. best wine we drank there was the boxed stuff from the farmers markets in the small villages. we were poor, of course so no fancy restaurants or "stellar wines" at that time. Lac St.Croix was stellar, rented a cat, strong winds and had the lake for ourselves.
