There are two ways to adjust ride height, with the preload but that affects your sag. The real way to adjust your ride height is by making the shock longer or shorter, on an aftermarket shock you can do that with the adjustable clevis, with the stock shock you use shims. With the ohlins to adjust preload you just turn the knob on the hydraulic adjustable preload, makes it easy to see which way you need to go as far as ride height.
