That's something I would have expected Orvis to say. You couldn't possibly sound older or more white.
Dude, i used to be a rap encyclopedia. Last rap album i spent my money on was jay. Then i bought satellite radio and i gave up on cd's. But i can recite any jigga lyric you'd like. My alltime fav has to be "beep beep i be pickin em up, let em play wit tha dick in the truck". I think the thing that turned me on the most was the Jay storyteller on MTV when he had the roots playing with him. That shit was the bomb.
Lil Wayne had talent, but he has taken too many drugs, and has regressed as an artist (but not financially). There are plenty of talented rappers active today. Eminem, T.I., Young Buck, 50, Busta Rhyms, Kardinal Official, Jay Z, Nas, Most Def, Common. These rappers all write well, have a good ear for picking beats, and the ones that I have heard live (most of them) sound a lot like they do in the studio.
You guys are making me want to pull out my Sugar Hill Gang albums. Beatstreet is one of the greatest.
Country music has changed a lot over the last 10 years. It is more of a Southern Rock sound now which is odd considering how many people are non-southern folks getting into the genre. Quite a few Canadians now, Californians and New Englanders in the business now. Kid Rock even has a country hit out now. The Eagles did their new album and realized they have no place in rock music any longer and relize that what was rock is now country. One of the top new acts in country played live at the bar I work at Saturday night. The Lost Trailers. They are very good. Pretty cool guys too. Rodney Atkins' band has a guy from Seattle, one from Hawaii, one from Los Angeles(played with McCartney) and 2 from Boston/Cape Cod. The HOT chicks are in country. I'm just waiting for Pink to go country.
There is good stuff out there, just not on the commercial airwaves. For that matter, the same could be said about music in all genres - you gotta get past the garbage on top before you strike gold.
That was your first mistake. Read the above & understand it. Rap had it's time when it was forced into the main stream music flow, just like all the other genres above. It is no longer, just like all the other genres above. Hence, you will always be able to hear it, but it will be the same as listening to any of the genres above. I recognize country music as a genre that is solid, but one that i don't care for. I don't know this artist at all, but someone forwarded this to me the other day & i think it's quite excellent, especially given the subject of this thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-5d5IfdYK4
