I have to agree with those who mentioned Muhammad Ali for boxing. It is not just his record alone, but the level of his opponents in that era. You also have to take into account the time he lost for his political beliefs/stands. I don't think anyone has ever come close to his overall abilities and accomplishments.

I'm big on Rossi, but I'm not sure if he has wide enough support to.claim the title. I suspect he will a few years after his retirement.
