I recall there was an interview with Lin Jarvis just before Lorenzo departed for Ducati where it was mentioned, but I also found this interview with JLo from the same time period where he mentions signing in 2006. They were a whole lot sneakier back then!

Looking back to 2006 when I signed with Yamaha for 2008, we wanted to be sure that I would enter MotoGP with a factory, and an important factory like Yamaha. We decided to stay one more year in 250cc, to try to be twice world champion and to be a little bit more prepared, physically and mentally.

It was really to be stronger, because maybe at 19 it was still too soon to go to MotoGP, even being world champion in 2006. And when everything happened in 2006 we didn't know that I would be world champion, because I was still fighting for the 250cc championship until the end.

From there, we tried to keep it secret, and for a lot of months we did that. But finally it was impossible. In 2007, everyone knew because we had a private test with Yamaha at the Almeria circuit and then finally some people spoke, 'what is that?' The rumour exploded.

 

Pedrosa is enough of a legend in Spain that he doesn’t need to spend a penny of his accumulated wealth for the rest of his life, so why would he need to ride for money? Hell, I’d buy the guy hookers and blow for a chance to spend an hour talking to him.

 

Yeah, why? There’s never been any sort of rivalry between the two cultures. Never.

Agreed. And no bias here either. Some of my worst friends are French.

 

I was thinking more in terms of boredom than bankruptcy.

 

I wish Zarco would have ended it effectively immediately IF Dani agreed to step up and race in his place for the remainder of '19 - just a fans perspective to see how an experienced, proven racer would fare on it. I'd love to see Johann take Mir's seat at Suzuki, and KTM bump Lecuona up to partner with Binder next year at Tech Trois.

While I'm dreaming, I'd like to see Redding take Alvaro's seat, Baubier get a 2nd Ten Kate Yamaha WSBK ride, and Spies take Reiterbergers place and be The Chin's teammate again on the new S1000RR.

 

Well, the Redding part sounds like it'll happen.

 

If everyone he meets wants to buy him hookers and blow, how can he be bored?

The KTM is a piece of junk and it doesn't matter who you put on the seat it is never going to win anything.

 

Looking the other direction doesn't make the Germans any more normal.

The odd thing is while the German like #2, the French seem to have a thing for the golden shower....
