I worked on the F-111D at Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM from 76-80. The capsule worked well if the plane was in level flight above 10,000 feet. Lower than that if had variable levels of survivability.
Pretty much. It wasn’t until well after the sixties that engineers realized that, if a jet was broke, it probably wasn’t going supersonic anymore, or at least, not for long. So the whole capsule thing; the weight and cost that went with it, went away.
@Venom51 Add a roll bar and racing bucket seats and it might be safe enough even for you to mow with.
