Since this is a race forum, I figured someone on here has to have ported there chainsaw. I am looking to send my MS88O in to have it ported. They are saying a gain of 30-40% over stock. Just wondering if anyone here has done any work to there chainsaws and was it worth it.

Are you already using an expansion chamber? That's your biggest bang for the buck.

no, the one I was looking to do is a gas saw. I have some 2 stroke saws but never really thought about putting an expansion chamber on it.

What do use an 880 on? (For those that don't know, it's the biggest saw motor they make.)

I'm confused. Your 2 stroke saws run on unicorn semen or something? What else would you put an expansion chsmber on, other than a 2 stroke?

    Really? Have you tried metal?

(I've just never needed anything larger than an 064 (w 36' bar), and that's for big ass stuff. Better beef up those arms; the powerhead ain't light. Something makes me think this isn't really a utilitarian-type question...)

holy brain fart... yes I know 2 stroke is gas with pre mix......

I live on a large farm and also get large trees brought in from a neighbor who owns a landscaping company. We heat our house and garage with a large central boiler furnace that runs from our garage to our house. We sell a bunch of wood as well. We got the 880 from a friend that was an arborist who helps us cut up trees since he heats his house with wood as well.

Expansion chambers have been used on 4-cycle engines. Before the science of calculating header length/diameter and collectors was able to get the same response i.e. tuning for a particular power band, w/o the need for converging and diverging cones.

I can't for the life of me understand why someone would mod a 880 ??? I don't even want to run one... or a 660... My biggest saw is a 362. Yes, you can port, muffler mod, and any other mod but unless you are cutting 48" or bigger trees, I don't even understand you running a 880. Just my .02. Carry on with this "best of".... Lol

Did the muffler mod on my ms261cm. That alone woke it up fairly well.
