Any fool can do that, it's just that talk boxes are out of vogue (but Frampton is pretty good guitarist today)

Larry Carlton (can't believe I didn't see his name earlier and often)
    Al DiMeola
    Mark Knopfler
    Lee Rittenour
    Jeff Beck

and 50 others, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, etc.

    Thread bump....

I read all the pages and no mention of Hughie Thommason?

Never put 2 and 2 together and realize he was one Outlaws and Skynard.

Joe Satriani, Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler, and Eric Johnson.

Thought they'd also sound good in the club's awards banquet video:

    John Scofield, but not really.

SRV, Clapton, and Hendrix. I own a black Strat due to this trio.

    Clapton is GOD.
From a complete library perspective, EC is the man.
So many techniques are pleasing, and it is easy to appreciate the music
SRV, EVH, Robert Cray, Albert King, Robert Randolph, B.B.King, etc.

I saw John Scofield play with Bill Frisell, and Frisell was much more impressive. They are both technically proficient, but Frisell has all kinds of style.

There was an excellent documentary on AXSTV yesterday that traced Clapton from 1970-1980. Tons of stuff that I didn't have a clue about.

That said, I still go with Jimmy Page as #1

    Sweatypants I am so smart! S-M-R-T... I mean S-M-A-R-T!

i feel like from a technical standpoint... John Williams (of Andres Segovia fame) is the most skilled guitar player in the known world, if I had to pick just one person. i grew up idolizing EVH when i first started playing guitar, and Eric Clapton is unbelievably talented beyond what simple rock songs might often suggest. but BB King is my favorite and most of my inspiration.
