Lots of great guitarists mentioned here....love them all......I'll throw a new one in: Junior Brown. Rip Gary.
I remember seeing Junior brown for the first time back in the 90's... most of the great guitar players that I have seen made me want to go back to the woodshed and practice harder. Junior Brown made me want to quit playing altogether, because I'd never, ever be that good.
This is me from a few years ago. I have'nt played since this video was shot so I'm still crap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiJ_gZQX-04
dude, might want to consider removing that vid and stickin it in the youtube thread while you still can. mods see that in the morning and you will probably end up on the banned wagon.
There's a terrific guitarist named Tommy Emmanuel on tv tonight...Thursday 6-16. It's on PBS. I've never seen him play but I've heard him...he sounds fantastic. The show is 90 minutes long.
Not one of the greats but his Chainsaw solo is pretty good. Jesse Dupree. Still doing his "Full Throttle Saloon" thing at Sturgis?
The thing with Lifeson is that he pulls the band together (kind of like The Dude's rug). Without him and his rythm/lead melodies, Rush would be a dissonant bunch of wankers each struggling to get the attention of the listener with their virtuoso stuff.
For me its the lead guitarist from Rage against the machine. I love his use of pedals though some hate it. I also like whoever plays acoustic guitar from linkin park.. they sold me when they did an acoustic "dust in the wind" For Bass players.. Les Claypool from Primus hands down. 7 string bass and he slams it like no one else Also Love Peter Frampton how he used to sing through his guitar
