as far as where to set 'em... long term adjustment intervals: go for the middle. seat of the pants power: loose. at lower rpms, it'll feel like it's pullin' harder. you lose top-end output and it's a bit harder on the valvetrain up there with the additional lash. real power: tight. at real output level rpms, it don't get any better. plus, smoother runnin' valvetrain. loose or tight, you'll want to check 'em at a short interval to see what they're doin'. the difference in actual power output is minimal and subjective.
I mother freaking HATE degreeing those things in cause I like doing it off initial lift and checking my work off initial closure..... which you can't do with them things. Stupid cams.
Huey..you owe me a Viso! I spit mine out while eating lunch with that pic! I forwarded it to my wife to show our 8month baby girl Hayden...i got a text back from her within 30 secs "Hayden says you need a 1.55mm shim"
Another stupid question...I know I should have woke up with this knowledge, but the 'valve clearance check fairy' didn't come last night... Do I need the special 'molybdenum' sp? oil to put on the cam lobes and journals as the manual states as I re-install the cams, or just use my usual oil?
LOL Are you a real prick only on the interwebs, or it that the norm for you in everyday life? You don't have to answer that.....it must be lonely at the top.
Patience? As if you're helping me through this? We know you're considered the resident prick, and that you're proud of it. That's cool. I'll continue to be stupid with my degree in my back pocket. Like I said, it's lonely at the top, huh? Shims in. Cams next. Questions to follow.
Question #1: I know you pros probably just tighten the cam journals down according to 'your spec.' Should I put the torque wrench to them? It's a big torque wrench 2' long, 1/2 drive.... How accurate is 10lb.fts gonna be on that thing? Or should I snug them up, then give them a 1/4 turn or so. Cam journals are currently just snug. Awaiting further instruction.
