Yeah, but did you do it during Love Bug season in FL? That's the real test.

Years ago I made a chock using two roof jacks and a short piece of 2x8. Worked quite well.

    sounds like my options are:
    • rent a van/truck
    • use my hitch carrier and spray it down with WD40 before driving, then wash it off when i get home

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use a tarp secured really, really well.

That and some preventative WD-40 and you should be set.

cant really tarp a steel hitch carrier. that would also get beat up from the salt

Sorry, I misunderstood - I thought the primary focus was on the bike, not the hitch carrier.

both really. the bike i'm getting just for parts, so i'm trying to avoid any corrosion on the hardware. but i do use the hitch carrier a lot and dont want to cause any damage on it from the salt.

its been suggested to use bulk plastic as you can wrap the whole thing when its anchored in the trailer or even on the carrier.
Ive transported bikes like that and it keeps debris, grime, water, etc off the finish. Once at the destination cut it all off.

if i use the hitch carrier, the plastic wrap idea is probably what i'l go with. i'm looking at that stuff on home depot's site now. wouldnt have time to get something shipped online.

if there are D rings in front and back of the trailer, you don't need a wheel chock. i've never used a wheel chock.. simply 2 straps in front, one through back wheel to the rear d-rings. done.
And yea.. i'd be renting a trailer or van vs dealing with the mess a salty road will give ya.
