An article on the shutdown got me thinking about all the things the federal government is involved in that it shouldn't be, or things that are just pure waste/graft. Off the top of my head: Any manipulation of the economy Congressional perks (including their exempt healthcare plans and insanely generous retirement and healthcare) keep it going
well, let me help with that....those things would be: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." that they are doing. ok, you can lock the thread now.
Why is it you can ship 2 tons of heroin into this country no problem, but try and bring a two-stroke motorcycle through customs and everyone loses their mind? Thanks, government.
Yep! Sure! I just hit the 50 mark and I've made my plans with zero input from SS. Any dole I get will be gravy. Medicare/caid would be nice since health care is absofuckinglutely ridiculous now. Didn't see that coming or I might've actually stayed 20 in the Navy. Of course there's always the bail-on-the-US and head for Ecuador option.
Social security isn't welfare since you pay for it. It's insurance that is forced upon you. It's not the fault of the captured customers that the insurance company sucks at the insurance business and allows the employees to loot the operating funds and replace them with IOUs to be paid by the customers. You can read the history here: https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/ssb/v70n3/v70n3p1.html
Social Security isn’t welfare. People that collect from it worked and contributed to it through payroll deductions for a minimum of 40 quarters throughout their working years. But that being said it needs fixing too. The pyramid club model that funds it isn’t durable enough to survive population fluctuations like we are seeing. It was based on many working to few collecting. Needs to be revamped to resemble the federal employee retirement system. The hard part is phasing the current system out while impacting people’s earned benefit the least. It would be an ice age paced migration but it could be done. Just need some politicians with the balls to do it. Right now with the aged population it is probably political career suicide. Term limits would help that.
But the guvment has been embezzling from social security for decades. Hence, SS is welfare for the guvment.
I would guess any SS money you get, by the time youre eligible, will be just enough to pay for "supplemental" coverages that dont come with Medicare.
