I am in Ormond Beach FL helping my brother. He needs tires mounted asap, meaning by tomorrow mid morning since I am leaving and he will need my help putting the wheels back on the bike. It is a long shot I know but never hurts to ask if anybody had ideas or suggestions. 130/90/16 front and 150/80/16 rear. All the places we have found are charging $100 per tire mounted.
Harbor Freight and get some tire spoons… two boards for a bead breaker using your truck to drive up the ramped one on the bead with the other under the wheel… if jumping on it doesn’t work… 30 min tops for the pair…
Don’t forget to protect the front brake rotors from the ground, or take them off, when breaking the bead… seen some guys bend them…
$100 a tire for a wheel that's already removed? Holy fuck. I'd cut the old ones off and slip the new ones off before I paid that LOL
Are you buying two new tires and having them mounted? I would think that would be included with the tire purchase.
Most shops don't include mounting because some bikes are a huge PITA to get the wheels off where some are super easy. With cars they are all pretty much the same but bikes it's not the case.
Im right there with ya. If I don’t have the proper tools to do it quickly and efficiently, time is money.
The dealers here in the North Orlando area and Cycle Gear charge $70-80 per. And then they get to it when they can. Could be days.
$100 for 15 minutes? What am I missing here? I can dismount and mount a cooperative tire on my NoMar in 5 minutes.
You're missing the fact that he doesn't have any tools on site and that he would have to purchase them. Even if he does buy the tools, the tires aren't balanced. $200 is cheap in his scenario, imo.
That’s probably the right answer. I’m like the OP, I hate to get taken advantage of and would be trying to figure something out too.
I've seen some interesting videos of guys changing tires using Zip Ties. Doesn't look easy, but if you don't have access to a tire machine...
Well we said effit and paid $168 for mount and balance. Can't believe they did not swap out the valve stems for that price. Wtf. Bike is back on the road. Btw Pine Sol on carbs, impressive.
