in '10 our 7th grade daughter traveled to Paris with her French Class, I was broke but found $$ to afford trip for her. It was an amazing cultural experience for her and the world got smaller for her that year. In '18 2nd daughter had opportunity to study abroad between freshman/soph college year; she didn't want to go as classes really didn't work for her degree. Think she traveled 7-8 countries in 7-9 weeks, the world got 'real' small for her. Both, to this day, thank my wife and me. Seeing the world at a young age is an education in itself. YMMV. Send her!
My daughter went to England at about twelve years old. She had a great time. She did come back English, so beware of that.
Mine is going to Germany over spring break with her college nursing group. I made her watch Hostel with me. Told her it was based on a true story.
On a much smaller scale, our Daughter got the chance to sing at Carnegie Hall her senior year. We had a race that weekend, but there was no way we were going to let her skip that. Her and Honey went and I got to go to the race to earn the money to pay for it. That same teacher reached out to her a month ago wanting her to go back there and help with his current students. We told her to go again. There's a lot of people that never get to go there, let alone sing there. Let the kid go, and just worry while she's gone. It's the parental thing to do.
had a builder I worked for framing houses, sent both of his kids obviously different ages on a 6 month trek before he'd pay for college . both came back humbled. both gone through college and both very successful! wish I had that op. if it's there and affordable send and you'll find a different, perspective of how they look and might appreciate.
This sounds like a great idea. My parents couldn't have afforded it for me and my sister, and I was too interested in getting my junior college finished and starting to work. My wife and I spent so much money between racing, dance, and college for both of the kids, I don't know that I would have been willing to pay for this for my kids either? Having said that, this makes a nice goal for my wife and I to help make happen for the grand kids.
My wife went on a trip to Europe in high school, possibly right after graduation. She had the time of her life and all that good stuff. She went to England, Spain, and France for sure, possibly another country.
Military? If so, that's how I came to be born in Germany to a 17 year old German girl and 20 year old GI.
No. Don't chaperone. I didn't even want my parents on field trips. If she is trusworthy show her the trust she has earned. Or you could send me.
I was born just a little south of there in Karlsruhe. I'm sure this has some meaning, but it is? However, I do like sauerkraut and was disappointed when Costco dropped polish dogs and sauerkraut off the menu during covid.
I think it is. Actually taking my wife and kids to Heidelberg and Niederstetten this summer to see my aunt, uncle and cousins. To me much of southern Germany is really beautiful and so many amazing castles, but I haven't been there in about 35 years.
