I'm willing to correct my thinking, below I count 4 sets but only used 3 in my calculations, above. Last year, I know for a fact, the fast guys were putting on a new set for every race in the b/c classes. Some pretty quick guys would race the 4-6 laps, flip tire and race next 4-6 laps and then that tire is done. Last year Vegas I heard Pacerella used 7 sets. Now this is where a spec tire rule and tracking sets of tires in a spec class could save the racer dad a bunch of money. Set for qualifying Set for National Set for Saturday b/c races Set for Sunday b/c races
Pissing away tires can be done - however it's not necessary to run or to win. One used set for Friday practice. A set for Q if you really think it'll matter but it normally doesn't change a riders spot much if any, I wouldn't waste the money myself. So at most on a double header, 2 sets - one each lunchbreak for the races that day.
With last years tires, I guarantee you the fastest guys couldn't win using your example......that is assuming the competition was stiff with guys like Pasceralla, Solis Farris West Dominguez Lancaster Anderson Tigert, etc.
At WERA I run pump 99% all the time. I've also tried F&L I get a good deal on. I'm told if you use MR12, you want to keep running it because it makes enough power it can effect the way you ride, shift points and gearing.
Ok, but that had to be awhile ago, I could be wrong, but I don't believe the tires wore out as quickly, back then. I'm also quite sure there was more money and probably more free tires going around during your era. Either way, please don't take this as me slamming WERA. I love going to WERA and think we will always race with WERA. I was just suggesting, if you do a entry level series like this, consider spec fuel and tires. Then you said WERA was way cheaper, I was showing you that for us it seems closer than you think. Other dads we race with have noticed this too, especially when you consider double header weekends. Also I was only discussing the SS class, I know competitive cost go up quickly in DSB and ASB.
Less free tires actually, all the tires guys sponsorship was going to AMA since they didn't have spec stuff. Brian and I were doing things on the super cheap, Josh riding for JU had way more tires most weekends than we did as did Mark with his sponsorship from Pirelli. I'm just pointing out that while you may think you need to do a lot of this stuff to be competitive you can do it on the cheap and honestly not have things turn out any different. I know you're not slamming WERA at all
Jamie, I'm sorry, I don't know you, I'm curious, how close are you to track record pace? Or how close are you to winning C superstock or A superstock/superbike? Cool.
