2022 GOODBYES AND LOOKING AHEAD TO 2023!

In 2022 WERA had two long time Officials say they are going to retire as Officials. Rich Graver who was Chief Tech and Starter for the Northcentral Region since the late 1970s gave his notice that 2022 would be his final year as a WERA Official due to personal reasons. A BIG Thank-you goes out to Rich Graver for all the years he helped as a WERA Official. Rich Graver was an institution with the Northcentral Region he was always there to help riders out and to keep events running smoothly to say we will miss him is an understatement, but we wish him a very quiet and happy retirement. Dann Clark will be stepping up to take on the duties Rich Graver covered for 2023 and we hope years to come. Dann has taught the WERA Rider’s School, he has done Tech, Grids, Crash Truck and is well versed in what it takes to give Rider’s the experience they have been accustomed to at WERA events.

WERA also had Ed Bruner, fondly known as EB2, tell us he has some personal things he needs to attend to and would not be returning full time for 2023 – he did leave it open that if we absolutely need him to call hm – which is good! A BIG Thank-you to EB2 for everything he has done for WERA over the years as a WERA Official. EB2 has been with WERA since the 80s and he has always been a staple at our events, whether it was as competitor, tech or for the past years Race Director in the Southeast Region he always had the safety and well being of riders as his #1 priority. Long time WERA rider, teacher, announcer David Harman will step up into the role of Race Director and we have every belief he will pick up where EB2 left off – David Harman has many years under his belt and knows what it takes to have riders experience a smooth event.

With these two long-time men stepping down we have some shoes to fill and if you are interested in giving back to a sport that has left you with many good memories or still provides you with them we need you to put on an Official Shirt and help us make these events the best experience they can be for the riders. We need help in all positions from Registration, Tech, Grids, Starters, Announcers, Rider’s School Teachers, and everything I missed. We offer some help with expenses but ask that you let the passion for this sport drive you to step up and be a WERA Official. If you are interested, please email [email protected] and let him know and he will let you know where he needs you and at what events he can use your help.

The 2023 Season kicks off February 25/26 at Talladega Gran Prix in Alabama and we hope to see you all there!
