Mine's 03 E350 7.3 Stock hwy mileage 16 With the Edge, 4" turbo back high flow muffler,K&N filters:17 Big difference was towing. Stock: 9 mpg with mods :12 This all is averaged @ 70mph
Does it automatticaly apply ALL of the changes, or do I have to manually do it? It claims to change the shift points in the trans, which I dont know much about, but I sure as crap dont want to mess it up. I dont tow with it a lot, but I do haul the boat and the camper from time to time, as well as a 5x8 trailer full of rocks for our driveway. And thanks for all of the replies so far!
No problem. Found the old scanned copy of my dyno graph. It's not the most legible but if you zoom in you should be able to see everything: http://www.jerryandangie.com/gallery2/d/5968-1/dak_dyno.jpg Red = Stock Green = 87 octane high performance Blue = 91 octane high performance I never dyno'd the 91 octane towing, wish I had done that too. The only thing on my truck at the time was a cold air intake and I had removed the clutch fan as my truck came with the heavy duty cooling and had a clutch and electric fan. I only ever needed the clutch fan on for towing. As you can read at the bottom the max, or peak, gains weren't bad but weren't as much as some of the gains lower in the rpm range. You get a lot more area under the torque curve.
I have on 04 Duramax with the LLY motor. I get 12-14 around town and maybe 18 on the highway and about 8 or 9 when I hook up a 38 ft Toyhauler. Todd, are you in a 2300 or 3500? and if 3500 is it a dual or single rear wheel? Mine is a 3500 dually. I have always heard the diesels get great milage. I just dont see it. I have always wondered if it was the 2 extra tires on the rear that hurt the milage. Also, did you do anything besides install a chip? I have heard that if you did not increase air intake and exhaust flow you risk overheating with a chip. I am out of warranty and was thinking of putting one in now.
its the 2500 shortbed duramax. completely bone stock. all i did was put a k&n filter in it. The hypertech programmer was designed to work with completely stock configuration, no other mods necessary. Some of the other controllers that really bump up the HP and torque should have exhaust and intake mods. Any diesel you go 100+hp over stock, you better do the mods or things are just gonna get too hot. My truck is 100% completely stock, right down to the tires/rims. About the only "mod" ive done is a bug deflector. LOL. When i fill up, it usually takes anywhere between 19 and 21 gals, and im usually around 375 miles on the tank.
purchased a Diablo programmer for my 05 Ford E250 5.4 V8 gas And a Gibson muffler (OEM high Flow Replacement) Should be here this week. will respond with results.
I have an S&B intake, AFE turbo inlet tube, 5" exhaust and EFIlive tuning on my 05 duramax 2500 and I'm averaging almost 18 with mixed driving. I haven't done an all highway trip yet to see how it does with that. That's all calculated by hand.
I have a DiabloSport Predator that I use with the 91 octane tune. Noticed a big difference in performance but my fuel milage stayed the same (16.6) I'm also running a CAI and the throttle body spacer on mine. You can d/l the tune from your truck and send it to a guy on the Predator forums and he will basically do a bench synthetic dyno and specifficaly alter the tune to match your truck. I'm waiting on a CAT back Flowmaster setup before I do that but so far I really like the Predator.
I have 04' 3500 dually,w/Edge, 4" exhaust, AEM Brute force intake. You'll see a 2-3 mpg increase across the board. I've heard dual wheels take off 2-3 mpg over single wheel.
You need the bigger exhaust, I seen no difference with the intake. Upgrade the filter in the stock air box, I think it works just as well.
Wow, thanks again! Sounds like it's worth it for the dakotas for sure! I appreciate everyone's responses
Last question (I think lol) I am going to get the Superchips tuner BUT do you think I should purchase an exhaust FIRST, or the superchips? Only reason I ask is when you first get the superchips, you have to D/L the trucks map, and if it has an exhaust it might read different. I dunno, just thnking outloud. Not a full system, just a cat-back Magnaflow system. Thanks!
If you aren't getting a full system, just get a high flow magnaflow or flowmaster muffler and save your cash.
Yeah I was just going to get the muffler and have the local place pipe it from the catback, much cheaper that way. prob about $100-$150 total (inc muffler)
The superchip programs are pre-made with no adjustment. The timing and fuel maps are going to be the same no matter what else is done to the truck.
Thank you  I just didn't know if it would change the "stock" map in the comp before I d/l it to the chip module. Basically I didn't know if it was better to start with the superchips stock, or after the exhaust
if you own a diesel, make sure to check out getting a system that either has a downpipe or adding one as you throw a tune on. It really helps bring down the EGT's, something that can melt your hauler down quick if you are not careful. I used a PPE tuner for my 07 3500 Duramax LLY. I noted 2-3 mpg better around town, haven't towed anything with it yet. It's also a van, but it has a 3.73 rear in it so it has a ton of grunt but it highways crappier than the 4.10.
