Warranty stuff is weird. Basically your best bet is to find a friendly dealer. Legally they have to show the mods caused the issue but it can be a pain to fight. Mine blew an o-ring - definitely caused by the chip - and my dealer took care if it with me paying a minor deductible.
My 04 ram 3500 has had a bd tripledog stacked with a quadzilla something or other tow module for the past 130000 with no trouble. other than tires every six months!!!oh..just rolled 450000 miles the other day too.
Yea, that's what I've been told, the dealer I bought the truck from is 35 miles away now, there is a closer one, guess I should give my sales guy a call and see what he says.
The dealer I use is well over an hour away and still worth the drive. Luckily they have all the brands I want, Ford/Dodge/Jeep
my mileage numbers? yes, i fill up and do the math. The HP and torque numbers are what the programmer claims to add to stock numbers. Why? I dont trust the onboard numbers for shit. Damn thing ran out of fuel on me ONCE, told me i had 22 miles to empty as i was pulling out of the driveway to go the 2 miles to the gas station. As i pulled right out of the neighborhood, it went dry. Im just glad the Chevy's have the under the hood priming pump, BUT, the wife was NOT happy with my phone call at 530 am asking her to bring me an empty gas can to the end of the subdivision and take me to the gas station to get fuel.
sales guy typically aint gonna do shit for ya on the service side. I carried the Chevy in for some warranty work, and developed a relationship with the diesel mechanic there, who also has the same truck with a different chip in his, and told me not to worry about it, he'd take care of me in the event i needed it. Anytime i took the truck in for warranty work tho, i always pulled the program out, not because i was afraid of getting screwed on warranty stuff, but because i didnt want to take the chance of them flashing the computer and losing my program. Once the program from the programmer is installed on the truck, its essentially "gone" from the programmer, and you need to "pull" it back out to put it back in, or like i said, if they flash the onboard PC back to stock, youre out however much you paid for the chip/programmer.
Yeah I have an 05 duramax, but like you said the computer can be pretty off on milage. Your numbers were just so good I thought maybe you were trusting the computer.
I superchipped my Dodge Magnum Hemi,, OMG when towing to the track at 80 and a little extra I am down to just under 10 to the Gal,, sux gas like crazy nbow but its like the trailer is not even there
Used to do the same thing with my old truck that had a 7.3 in it, best truck I had until it was stolen. Used the Superchips programmer the same way. So now I have to find a reason to take it in under warranty........hummmmmm
From everyone ive talked to, including reading on the diesel forum, starting in 04, the fuel economy has gotten progressively worse . The 03's get better fuel economy than an of the duramax's made since. I talked to one guy at the gas station with a 2009 model last year, he'd only had it about 2 months, bought it brand new. He asked the kind of mileage i was getting, and when i told him, he was floored. Said the BEST he had been able to get out of his around town was roughly 13-14 mpg (typically averaged 12), and if he babied it, maybe 20 on the highway. Even when i stopped in at the dealership i purchased mine at to talk to the salesman i bought mine from, he confirmed everything i'd heard, that the fuel mileage wasnt as good on the models built after 2003. Dunno, i guess i just picked the right time to buy mine.
I have a Bully Dog PMT on a 2005 Ford Powerstroke F250.. Worth every $ for towing and HP fun. I haven't seen much mileage increase. The truck is now like a muscle car, 0-100 mph.
Had a superchips in my reg cab '03 dakota and then again in my quad cab '03 dakota, both had the 4.7L V8. I dyno'd the reg cab as it was a 5 speed 2wd model and I gained more than what you quoted from stock to the high perfermance as a max gain, the peak gain was actually a little less like 14hp and 18ft-lbs of torque. However there were spots on the graph that had above 30ft-lb gains and over 20hp gains. On my quad cab dakota, 4wd and 5-speed auto, it made a good difference towing my car and trailer around with the 91 oct tow program. It was approximately a 5000 lb load I was pulling and it wasn't straining the truck much at all as I just kept it out of overdrive. Overall I highly recommend them and they do work well on the stock trucks.
Not sure if it is an option, but I would look at either EFILive or HPTuners. Superchips and other handhelds like them are toys basically. Access to tables is very limited and so on.
