I remember years ago, the company wanted to promote me to sales manager. For my 7 years prior to that, I was always the 1 or 2 salesman out of 10-30 depending on the year and who owned us? One manager couldn't understand why I didn't want the promotion and the title. I explained to him, dealing with salespeople is a pain in the rear, and I could care less about a title. I would walk around the office sweeping the floor and emptying trash cans if you paid me a what I'm making now as a salesman, I'm only doing this to make money and nothing else.

getting out of shifts+more coin+qualification for the specific role+greater prospects
4 years ago I chose to step up my game, accept a new challenge and now it pays off, that was my stepping stone. now there's yet another new challenge ahead and I always find it "rejuvenating" for my working life.

Just be wary of the work/stress/life balance. I got a pretty decent promotion and raise at the beginning of last year. Busted ass and also going to result in a healthy bonus come this March (used Ducati/clapped out Audi amount). All this came with a shit-ton of stress that I've been dealing with all year, though. I'm slowly learning how to deal with it, but I'm debating if the extra coin is worth the high blood pressure.

Regardless, congrats on the promotion. Having folks recognize and reward your hard work is always a good thing.

    so very true!
I'm in a (pretty steep) learning curve right now and Ι am expected to deliver from March onwards. I believe I can handle the pressure, it's yet to be proven.

though this is not my case, sometimes you need to take a shit role in order to further progress. If no raise is involved then you simply deny and/or change career(?)

"money makes us go to work!"
Even though I see your point, a job that doesn't fulfill you can weigh heavily on your mind/soul.

Understood. But at that time I was making between $200-360K and only the owners or other top salespeople were making that kind of money. That was also the most money I ever made in sales. Those were 1998-2005 dollars. Let me assure you, those $ were fulfilling me, but I eventually wanted to do my own thing which I had thought about doing for years.

So,did you? and what was the outcome?
"my thing" might be growing kiwis some day but it's not in my immediate priorities right now.

Just remember that sometimes the end of progress is a shit role, i.e. public school administration.

Congrats on going from a job you been doing well to being the boss of folks who do it half as well and being frustrated about the lack of comprehension while feeling the pressure from above regarding results and budgets

    now go update your LinkedIn

While it's generally true, there are specific circumstances in my case that make a big difference.
    also, I don't have a LinkenIn profile.

My opinion on managing functions and staff in a company.

I like conceptualization then system design then build then implementation. In two different companies I became a manager (not supervisor) because that's what experienced people do, right? In the technical world if you pay attention, you learn how to apply principals.

I have NEVER liked managing others work.

As the other engineers where I work retired or died off, the company has been unable to fill the positions with people that will stay the course and really start contributing.

I was asked to go back to engineering only with no management responsibilities. This was needed to cover the work volume.
    BEST GIFT EVER!

    Ironic timing.

I told my boss I wasn’t pleased with my comp and needed X more, and he gave me (X * 0.55) more and tried to play it off like it was a good thing and how he had to jump through a bunch of hoops (off cycle board meeting, etc.) to get it done.

I told him he’s a day late and a dollar short, so the CEO met with me to try and convince me it was a good outcome and tell me how valued I am, blah blah.

I told him “I appreciate you telling me how valuable I am, but when push came to shove it seems you only think I’m half as valuable as I think I am.”

That convo was Friday, so we’ll see what the new year brings in terms of employment :p

Kiwis have maintained a significant income advantage over other local crops for an extended period.

I get occasional invitations to make a LinkedIn profile. I don't do shit, and I don't do it whenever I feel like it. I'm not sure networking helps with that.

Tried electronics/ coding as it was my field and a very expensive taxpayer funded education. Hated it.
Painted yachts, meh. I'd painted hotrods and bikes a bit too earlier .

Money for both careers is open ended to about 7 figures but who gives a shit if it sucks.

Random offer to learn wallpaper and came with commercial spearfishing side gig. 36 years of doing two hobbies I loved for money.
