Many of us knew Carl Anderson, YAM#849 on the board here, especially the vintage and two stroke folks. He unfortunately passed the night before last after what sounds like a very quick and late battle with cancer. Those who knew Carl know how much he deserves to be remembered and recognized. The best human being you could hope to call a friend. Godspeed to a friend and racer, you will be missed so incredibly much.
This one hurts. I will miss the many phone calls. he knew my personality but always made a point to call and be like, you good or just stirring shit up. lol. Will definitely miss giving him shit about old 2 strokes but man he loved this sport
Oh no! That's terrible. I had so many great experiences at the track with Carl. We were also on some committees together with AHRMA. I haven't kept up with him much in the last few years. I think a lot of people didn't know he was a legit rocket scientist. He told me a fun story about working on the space shuttle and sitting in the pilot's seat all day to flip one switch. Haha
Steve that reminds me of a story someone shared yesterday on a Vintage fb group while remembering Carl. Paraphrasing: A group, including Carl, a bunch of friends and a young newcomer to racing were sitting around at the end of the day talking shop. Newcomer spouts some inaccurate tuning and two stroke exhaust information. Carl politely explains the correct information to which the newcomer embarrassingly replies "ok... what are you some kind of rocket scientist?" To which Carl paused and replied sofly, "well, yes actually." Lol
About 10 years ago I was at Grattan for a race. I don't know the details as to how it came about, someone couldn't make it or Carl just needed to cross it off the bucket list, but he performed the National Anthem. Carl was a rocket scientist, not a singer so I'm guessing someone couldn't make it, no one was running forward to volunteer and he stepped up lol. After he muscled through it, the announcer remarked, "that might be the bravest thing I've ever witnessed" I believe stand up comedy and singing the national anthem are the two of the most terrifying fucking things you could ever do. Respect.
Carl was an incredible guy and great ambassador for our sport. I was happy to have known him. Rest in Power Carl!
