what kind of things are pretty common for setup, like what height should i have my forks at, etc.

There are a lot of racers over at RC51.org. If you do not feel like spending the money, and you shouldn't because they are going to shut down the site this year, go to the links page and check out MD's Hub. He has raced an RC since 2001 I believe and he knows his shite. Dan Kyle also has a great deal of knowlege about race set-up for this bike. He is in the links page as well. Good luck, it is an awesome machine.

Not since Pirelli (and others now I believe) came out with the 55 series 190. Before that lotsa racers stepped down to the rounder profile of the 180/55 since the 190/50 had a flatter profile.

Ur gonna have to dbl check cuz my memory serves me for my SP1....but if ur gonna keep the suspension STOCK it was highly recommended to shim the rear shock approximately 2-3mm, that doesnt sound like much but in actuality it transaltes to 3x that in the back.
As for the forks Id keep them right where they are at until you shim the rear cuz it WILL quicken it up. If that isnt enough then Id try raising the the forks only a mm at a time but watch cuz u may sacrifice clearance when dropping the front end.

Also look into the following mods if ur seeking more performance:
    flapper mod
    pair mod
    soft rev defeat mod

Lastly, I highly recommend 15/41 (stock is 16/40) 520 conversion.

I almost forgot one of THE most important things you can do to ur bike is have a few buddies over to help you check ur sag. If you cannot dial in the proper sag u shld really consider upgrading the rear and having the forks revalved by Dan Kyle. Those two things wld actually help regardless if u get proper sag or not.

    Gdluck!

Trust me partner there is more info through the .org site then you can ever absorb in you head. Lotsa racers on that site. Try to get on the site if you can. Trust me the money you spend to get on the site will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Hope this helps X-RC 51 racer.

I agree BUT he wont be able to get on.....I heard Mike has stopped taking member long ago.

A lot if not all of the same info can be found in the RC51 section at the Motorush.com site......I think Speedzilla even has decent info in their RC51 section.
