I get what you're saying but price is part of the issue. Are we talking about a $1000 unit or $4000?

I'd pay around $1000 for a tire machine to install in my 8.5 x 16 ft dual axle - but not $2k

We used to get them for that. Things are more expensive now. The Hoffman I have is 4500-5500 these days.

There's more to it like breaking the both sides of the bead, and fitting/mounting and airing the tire. But if you want to wager say a hun, I'll challenge you to dismount old tires then mount and air 40 new tires for time. You can use your No-Mar and I'll use my old Corgi or Coats electric table machine. Whatta say?

Bought my Derek Weaver for ~$1200-ish. A new No-Mar setup is...~$800?

This is what i have...It was barely $1100 shipped from TX to Cincinnati via SAIA trucking 6-7 yrs ago....TLR67 was the forum 'hookup' for these machines as he 'hooked' up many of us on here....Not sure if he's still the 'hooker' or not.

This tire changer is made in Germany and not Chiner which is a big selling point to me. The paperwork/instructions were in German/English and it did need a EURO fitting that i had to source from Parker....But I heard that the changer started coming with that adapter after I bought mine.

Might be able to find them cheaper if you look around and/or keep an eye on FB in your area.

EDIT: I just ran the changer through checkout in the garage appeal link, free shipping + tax is $1506 to Ohio and dropped off at the trucking/shipping terminal...You would pick it up there, which is what i did...I took my enclosed trailer and they loaded it with a forklift with fork extensions to get it in without driving on my ramp door.

Probably, but I'm a cheap bastard...found a complete used NoMar for $250. But, that was 4 years ago and I've never used it. Still take all my tires to a shop to be changed at $60 per pair. I'm sure I've spent well over $1200 in that time. Yep, I should have bought a real unit years ago.

Only fair to compare new to new, or used to used prices. 12 years of track days, sprint racing, and endurance racing. I average $60-$80 in tire changes each weekend. Sounds crazy but that's only 3-4 tire changes. I've lost count at how many times my tire machine has paid for itself. New toy hauler tires? Yup that too.

Honestly, maybe I'm just projecting, but I'm guessing at some subconscious level, you feel the no mar is too much of a pain in the ass to use. So you just choose to get the tires changed by the shop. At that point...what fucking purpose is it serving? What did you "save" over a real machine? As of right now, you're -$250...

Got burned too many times from tire vendors saying "we have lots of tires", only to show up that weekend and they're out of a compound/size. Literally every brand has been guilty of this way more than once, and anyone trying to say otherwise is flat out lying. I bring 2-3 extra sets of wheels with me every weekend and only swap wheels with new tires already mounted anymore.

Everyone is "support your tire vendor" but what about supporting ourselves so we can continue to fund the hobby we love? I would have literally spent close to $8-10k in tire flips at this point.

I'm sitting here thinking that's a lot of money for a tire changer and then it hits me...I paid $750 25 years ago for a skate sharpener! Still have it. I just checked and they're going for $1500 now. I need to sell it and get a real tire changer:D

Like Bearing said...you can change trailer tires too cause you all need to upgrade to at least Load D tires anyway....lawnmower tires....SxS tires even car tires if you grab a cheap HF static balancer.

I was taking 3 bikes to the track for the past 10 yrs....So I would have a crap ton of tires to change. I'd change all my tires, spare rims w/tires at the house so I never had to worry about tire changes at the track.

This is the route I’m going. I did two races towards the end of the season and went from no spare wheels to three extra sets. Now I don’t have a dining room because it’s filled with stacks of tires, wheels, an air compressor, balancer, etc.

Does anyone have a good tire/wheel rack for a trailer they can recommend?

It's all about what makes sense for each guys situation. If I were more into the vintage scene like you, on bikes that don't typically wear out tires at the rate that 600s/1000s do, I'm not sure I'd justify buying a machine...but for how often I've used mine? One of the smartest purchases I've made.

Our little trailer has those same tire racks. I use rivnut inserts into the frame to mount them.

I've been using a no-mar for several years, even with Dunlops (!), not too bad once I got the hang of it. Granted, I got mine used for $65 (yup, $65), so that can't be beat. I've used it more than twice and am therefore in the black.
