Heading to Plano, TX for a few days and as always I'm looking for a good barbeque place. Last time I traveled it was to KC and someone recommended Jack Stack which was fantastic so I figured I'd mine the collective expertise of the board again. So, where's the "can't miss" place north of Dallas?
Start your research here (although, the picks don't look to strong in the area): http://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/joints/city/Plano Or, download the Texas Monthly BBQ app: http://www.texasmonthly.com/apps/app_ad.html Baker's Rib (in Dallas), makes their top 50: http://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/venue/4141
Hard Eight is a favorite of mine. It's the Coppell location you'll want. http://www.hardeightbbq.com/?page_id=7 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...eport+Pkwy,+Coppell,+Dallas,+Texas+75019&z=16
Best places,IMO are going to be near Parkland in Dallas Open lunch only; they sell out Mike Anderson my favorite and Mike is manning the knife, real good cuts minimal fat my favorite Sonny Bryans Old school long time good food but very small seating area Almost forgot Big Al's think they are open for dinner, lost a bit of the favor when they moved but smoker is getting good flavor going again. Either place is going to have a big line at noon, 30-45 min wait You can search for groupon on other coupons or discounts for both
The last regional BBQ recommendation I got was from someone who said that Lexington is the place, it isn't.
Not Plano, but The Smoke Shack in Fort Worth was always a fav of mine. It is really had to get bad BBQ in North Texas. But try and find some place that uses hickory not mesquite.
And if they brag about their sauce, it's because they don't know how to make a rub and/or smoke meat.
Yeah, that's what I was told later. Can't wait for the next time I'm in town to try something better.
Drop by Ben's burger joint, The Stackhouse. Good burgers and really cold beer. It's not BBQ, but it's not bad. Nice deck to hang out and relax.
Good burgers?? They are the fookin bomb. Had one recently with a grilled poblano and a fried egg on it. It was devastating and I slept the entire afternoon. Thumbs up. To the OP: how long are you in town? If you are not a d-bag I will take you down there. I will use any excuse to go to Stackhouse.
Definite +1 on Hard Eight Coppell. But it's a bit of a drive from Plano. Actually in Plano, your BBQ (ish) choices are limited to Spring Creek BBQ and Dickeys... neither of which come remotely close to meeting your "can't miss" requirement. Closer & decent, but still a distant second (in both meanings of the word) is Hutchins BBQ in McKinney. https://plus.google.com/108344002250434394070/about?gl=us&hl=en#108344002250434394070/about Also, you didn't ask, but there's more to eat here than BBQ. If we have out-of-towners coming in, the one place we ALWAYS take them is Jeng Chi, It's a REAL Chinese food place. It's in a strip mall with about 10 other Chinese food places and it's not at all uncommon to see open tables at the other places & a line out the door at Jeng Chi. English is the second language here, and silverware is only by request. BYOB. Get the green onion pancake (at least one for every 2 people in the party, if not one apiece), and the combination fried rice to split with the whole party. As for entrees, I've never had a bad dish here. Under $20/person http://jengchirestaurant.com/location-hours/ If you want some meat-food other than BBQ, take a BIG appetite to Brazil Brasiliero. The reviews on google + are crappy, but I've always had a great experience there. $30+/person https://plus.google.com/102511792902559753956/about?hl=en#102511792902559753956/about For a grease-drippin'- artery cloggin' hamburger, o-rings, and shake, you CAN NOT top Griff's. Great lunch spot if you can handle being in a carb stupor all afternoon. I can't recall the name of the place, but it's run by a retired cop. GREAT food. Mid-range Tex-mex in almost a sportsbar setting: Jalapenos. Under $15/person. http://www.jalapenosmenu.com/Contact_Us___Map.html Greek food. Only been there once, but liked it. Been meaning to get back there. http://www.kostascafe.com/ Good lunch place: Ghengis Grill ""From the owner: “Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry, is a build your own bowl, fast casual, Asian stir-fry concept.”"" https://plus.google.com/103340661245462654699/about?hl=en#103340661245462654699/about That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Memphis doesn't have an internationally recognized BBQ contest every May by accident... Just sayin...
I'll be in Statesboro for the game Saturday. Remember the cute little blonde that used to visit the shop with me? She is now in college.
