A $8 piece of #14 welders glass, and a cardboard box and some glue & you can make your own solar viewer. Yeah.... I'm a nerd... :p

Thanks for the heads up. My 3 year old loves all things outer space and he will get a huge kick out of seeing this!

If it's anything like the lunar eclipse last week, it will be pouring rain wherever I am at the time.

Moon should start to occlude the sun in about 3 minutes here. Gnarly sunspot easily visible right now.

Damn! That shit is bright! I looked at it through two pairs of sunglasses and the tinted window on my van and I still can't see anything but a giant green dot everwhere I look :D

    Dumass! :D

Holepunch through photopaper and hold that a few feet from a white surface.

    Like so:

Tried that first, but on to the ground (didn't think about the white surface). Being so late in the day, the angle was too shallow to see it. I really wanted to see the actual eclipse though, not it's shadow.

It's really not so bad. I was able to see what I wanted to see. It's not everyday that you stare into the sun.

Crappy cell phone pic. Forgot my real camera - didn't think we'd see anything through the clouds.
