Yeah, you have to shuttle in now. no private vehicles within the Park. the shuttle runs every 10 minutes though, so we had no issues parking and taking it in. we did the Narrows hike and Angel's Landing, which was INCREDIBLE. Angel's landing requires a permit though, had to apply 6 months in advance and its a lottery.
Racing: OMRRA and WMRRA are strong organizations that run 3x tracks: Portland International Raceway, Seattle International Raceway, The Ridge Big bike Track Day: 2-Fast (PIR, SIR, Ridge and Oregon Raceway Park), Portland Ducati Dealer (PIR only). There may be others. Supermoto - McMinnville, as mentioned. There may be others. Suggestion on living: Live outside of Multnomah County and City of Portland proper. There's several "special" taxes and IMO, property tax is higher than in other counties. With your aviation business, there's two municipal airports on the Oregon side: Hillsboro & Troutdale. There's one municipal airport, Pearson Field, on the Vancouver, Washington side just across the river from Portland. Oregon Gun stuff: No restrictions on firearms, up to and including NFA items. No current restrictions on magazine capacity (there's some proposals for November, and one that's been in litigation for ~2 years) Any firearm sale needs to go through an FFL. Private party is fine, but still needs to go through an FFL. (I can sell you a gun, but we'd need to meet at an FFL to complete the background check) No waiting period. Moist...Oregon is moist. I lived in Eugene for 3 years and if your the type that likes humid cold, gray overcast winters then you'll love it. Street and dirt riding is really good. Maybe not as good as northern CA in terms of sport bike roads, but at appropriate street speeds/exploring its good. PIR is my only track experience, it's fair at best.
Seattle Portland had its rounds with Antifa and Proud Boys, tho None of that would happen in LO. The cops stop you if you look " different"
I don't care for Portland and the surrounding area, when I have passed through. My siblings live in the Willamette Valley outside of Dallas and it is a nice area.
Just woke up. Thanks for all the info (and non info) I'm keeping my Sedona place, selling the house in the Phoenix area, selling the Mexico place as well. One of the biggest draws was the amount of services and programs for disabled adults. The older 4 adopted kids all qualify for AZ state dept of disability services but Oregon has so many more programs available. The goal is to get the boys into long-term semi-independent living situations. The girls just need help with certain services. I have several NFA items and A Lot of higher capacity magazines so I need to look into how to transport those as well as the ammo. I looked at a Industrial park right off I5 just west of Lake Oswego. None of the heli/fixed wing airframes are going to Oregon. I have dirt cheap storage outside of Phoenix and people that can manage that. Only some turbine engines and parts are making the move.
I've lived in Portland for 40+ years - it's really a wonderful place. Lake Oswego is one of the best parts of the greater Portland area - safe & clean. Welcome!
Is the move because you looked at states specifically for the disability assistance side of things and Oregon was at/near the top? Asking as my youngest will need assistance her entire life so something I’ll need to start thinking about soon.
Sort of but Yes. The 4 that we adopted out of foster care all have various disabilities/mental healt issues. As they're all getting older and So am I we realized we need a better long term plan for each of them. The programs and services that they could qualify for is so much more than what they currently receive in AZ. I've always liked the area from Nothern Cal to Vancouver Canada. Growing up in the NYC area I just appreciate a more natural landscape area and want to give it a go.
@Wingnut I just want to thank you and your wife for giving the kids your love and compassion. I'm sure each feel like they are the luckiest in the world.
Well i wish that were the case... It's been a long road....and hasn't always been fun. Parenting ain't easy. Parenting kids that came from fucked up backgrounds is less easy. I wish i could share some of the more interesting moments.
The ONLY reason to go anywhere that $hithole people call Portland closed several years ago...Der Rhinelander German Restaurant. I would OK if the Soviet....errr Russians used most of that coast to test Neutron bombs.
Now, now Prost! and Stammtich both have better food, and beer, than Der Rhinelander. Plus, it's obvious you've never spent a day off reading in TSF or EFR.
But I saw on the internet that I should have strong opinions about it! The southern Orygun coast is absolutely stellar and lightly populated. Same as Northern Cali, but with less of the Cali
One of my west coast rides, I randomly pulled over for a water and a sammich: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/BocDMk7FciE
