Featuring Kristian Daniel Jr. The lone American in the Red Bull rookies cup and Joe Roberts. Worth the watch
I have alot of comments to this vid. Some of what is cited is accurate but there's some that is not or in the case of the NATCA rep is using his time as a platform to push the union agenda. They always claim to be understaffed...always and they will stop new technology if that means taking jobs away so take what that guy says with a grain of salt. It's about union dues. The scene in a control tower isn't some frantic guy sweating over a display with 50 aircraft to manage. You would never want that environment for anyone as that's when bad decisions get made and lives are lost. It's way more subdued, no yelling, no one freaking out, very professional, and of course with any job there's downtime particularly at smaller airports. There are mandatory breaks if there isn't any AT downtime. The other guy they interviewed had better insight in my opinion. The procurement cycle of gov't in general is partially to blame whereas most foreign gov'ts have less bureaucracy so the path of least resistance in the US is to keep the old shit running as long as you can which has it's own pros and cons but is a behavioral response to purchasing in the USG.
