What's really amazing is that the Brits managed to hold on to their empire so that there was only one rebel in the 1700's and NONE at all in the 1800's. It took another 150 years for the break up.
Most of those places are far better off than they would have been had the Brits not been there. The Brits brought civilization to a lot of very backward places. And they voluntarily left most of those places.
You have some funny ideas about colonialism and the effects on the indigenous people and their cultures. Your definition of far better off is based on your perspective, not theirs.
Living with poverty and violence is not a good thing even if you're entertained by "indigenous cultures".
