Fascinating where people draw the line regarding suspension of disbelief. Looking at a woman with snakes for hair turns you to stone? Yeah, I believe that. It also turns whatever clothing you're wearing to stone? No fuckin' way.
Electronics repair now. I once worked for a TV repair guy when I was a kid. He had crazy stuff like a big degaussing magnet and a Sams schismatics library of no equal.
Well it does make me curious about how that works. Can Medusa turn a blind man into stone? If not just how good does your vision have to be for it to work? If you have real bad cataracts is that enough to protect you? What if you're nearsighted and without your glasses you just see a big blob and can't make out any details? If Perseus used just the reflection in his shield to nullify the effect was that because the shield wasn't a very good mirror? Perhaps it distorted the shapes like a funhouse mirror and that's what saved him. Also makes you wonder how he knew he'd be safe if he used the reflection. Wonder if it's a particular wavelength of light that didn't reflect well off the shield. I mean it makes sense that if everything Midas touched turned to gold the clothes you were wearing could suffer the same fate when Medusa turns you to stone since you're touching them. But then it becomes a question of how far that effect goes. What if you were barefoot and therefore touching the planet? Does the whole planet turn to stone? What if you had grabbed Medusa's arm right when she turned you to stone? Would she suffer the same fate? Inquiring minds want to know.
