I got roped in to find a family vacation spot for next summer. 6 adults and 3 kids (5 to 10). They want a lake type setting with lots to do (ie keep the kids entertained). General area would be NC/Va/Tn area. Looking for some ideas on where to start looking...so far I got Lake Lure. I don't need a big research project just some ideas of places you might have been. The beeb has been a wealth of knowledge in the past, here's hoping...
We had an awesome time this summer at the Margaritaville Resort on Lake Lanier in Georgia. 10 adults and 11 kids went and we are already talking about going back next summer. We had our 5th wheel, but some stayed in the hotel and others rented a house, so plenty of options for lodging.
It may be out of your range but Deep Creek MD is nice with a lot of things to do. There are a ton of VRBO and realty companies that finding a place to stay is super simple. I think there’s a couple house’s on the street where my cabin is that would fit nicely. Some lake front and others across the street like me. Short dead end street so no real traffic. Feel free to pm if you get interested. Good luck ! Also my wife’s family did lake lure and got a little bit bored. That was a few years back though.
With kids that age, definitely second Lake Lanier. Bonus, if you can time it with a race /TD at Rd Atl.
How long you staying? What do the kids like to do? The area around my hood is fun, mostly out of doors type stuff, not much money pit amusement type things....although Tweetsie Railroad...
Lake Lure has a decent beach area for kids and the tourist stuff in Chimney Rock will keep them entertained, depending on how long your stay is. Lots of rivers, small lakes, and relaxing outdoor things to do in the Highlands, Cashier, Bryson City, Brevard area of WNC. Lake Norman has a lot nearby, but may not be the most relaxing time if you're heading off throughout the Charlotte area. Lake Jocassee might be worth checking out, although depending on what the kids like, it might not have the best options. It has crystal clear water with waterfalls in some areas.
How about some adventure for the kids. You could go to Summerville Lake in Wva. Near the New River. Buy some rock climbing lessons. Float the New. Lots of Mtn biking. Be aware, climbing can be addictive.
The wife and I passed through Lake Lure a couple of years ago on our way to the casino. It was nice, it is small, and it is a bit remote. If you need a little more bright lights/big city, Lake Norman or maybe Lake Wylie are just minutes from Charlotte.
The last time I did a trackday @ VIR we stayed at a sweet little lakehouse right across the border in NC, I believe it was on Hyco Lake which is about 15 minutes up the road. I think like 8 to 10 of us all in the house between riders and a couple coaches. Don't know if you wanted riding to be in the plans....but if so VIR is right there
Yeah..thanks for having to live like it's war zone around here. I'm about over their weekend fireworks already...
We were there during the 4th of July so they had fireworks. I had no idea that was an every weekend thing.
