I went through a phase where I was really enamored with high altitude mountaineering. Not that I would ever want to do it personally. Rather I admired the stories of the climbers and their sheer audacity, bravery, and resilience. Most especially, the early pioneers like Sir Edmond Hillary who's immortalized by the Hillary Step on Everest's South Ascent.

For all intents and purposes, if something goes wrong at those altitudes, you may as well be on the moon because there is very, very little chance of anyone being able to come and help.

The whole endeavor is both wildly fascinating and macabre at the same time; perhaps that's the product of the life and death duality of it all that draws people in to begin with.

I've probably seen Mall Rats....but don't remember it. Not sure if I want to now.....weird, as I hadn't thought of or brought up that incident in many years....guess it affected me more than I thought. I'm all sorts of pissed off again, which is pretty pointless.

Check out 14 Peaks. I can't even conceive of the determination that guy has.

Well at least you have some support here now… sucks man… just trying to spin a smile up, it was the My Name is Earl guy and I think he’s funny… not worth finding the movie funny but…

Senseless losses like that really makes you question destiny as maybe nothing could have been done… you did what you could…

I question a lot of things. Life is a gift, but an absurd gift sometimes. Speaking of absurd, have you seen Everything Everywhere All at Once? That's a mind fuck of a movie.....

One thing I realized early on: don't take this shit too seriously. Ain't a one of us getting out of this alive.

No, I’m not very cinematic… and if a movie doesn’t make me laugh or educate me I don’t like it… like when a bad person doesn’t die when they should type injustices I hate… too close to real life

Reminds me when I was young all I wanted to do is make movies like those you apparently dislike. Haha. All the wrong things happen compared to typical movie tropes. Hero dies in the first 5min, The good guy doesn't get the girl and commits suicide. The city girl visiting her family for Christmas is annoyingly terrible to her childhood boyfriend, learns nothing, and wins the lottery... I have an endless supply of storylines.

Any idea what it's actually about? Asking for a friend who may or may not be half way into and questioning finishing it...

Making it to the end is not going to get your friend any closer to that answer.

    That's funny. Orcas enforcing localism.

Orcas be like, "I'm 24' long and I weigh 12,000lbs. Your dingy doesn't belong!"

I suppose it'll allow for another pint of ice cream. Hoory... err, for him, I mean. So glad for him. Not me. I don't even eat ice cream.

Dihydrogen monoxide needs to be stopped! In 2019 it alone was responsible for roughly 236,000 deaths across the globe. We must stop it once and for all.
