What year did Suzuki start the steel frames? Any advantages or disadvantages? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
09 with Gladius. 07 I believe was last year of sv (2nd gen) here in States. Gladius in 09 and now 3rd gen sv 17-18. Steel frames have subframe and frame in one piece.
No real advantage to the steel frame. From the Gladius to the new 2019, they are longer than the 2nd gen. 110 links vs 112 links (chain) A little more difficult to set up. Do yourself a favor and keep it between 03 - 09, aluminum frame and swing arm. Easier to set up, more available parts, cheaper, endless notes and info...
Weighed mine at Blackhawk last weekend on the ASRA scales and it weight 335 with 2 gallons of gas and a big heavy lead acid battery in it.
And that is a fair bit more than the lightest SV that was there that day. Of course that SV needs a little mending now. [emoji853]
Damn! Mine has an aluminum subframe, and fancy UK bodywork that eliminates the front fairing bracket. Aftermarket radiator and it's 37o ready to roll out for a race. Would love to lighten it up a bit....
Mines down to 367, hopefully more after the subframe mod. Wheels would knock it down a bit more. But he's running a carbon tank at which is where a lot of weight is plus minimal bolts
The 2nd Gen Humphreys rode at Pitt and NJ and Dougherty rode at VIR was 350 with enough fuel for race.
