So, I turn 40 in November. As one part of my multi faceted midlife crisis, a few buddies and I are gonna go to Vegas in early December. I've never been, and know nothing about it. Can I just pick any recognizable hotel on the strip and book any decent flight, or are there some pretty solid do's/dont's? Wives and girlfriends may be along so hookers and blow are probably out.
I remember one thing: you can touch the strippers as "long as you don't treat them like a bowling ball."
I went to the Palamino last time I was in Vegas and the hype didn't measure up to the reality. It was no different than a Louisville strip club. As far as Vegas, it's all good. Do everything. I like the place.
Do you want clubs and gambling only? Or Grand Canyon, etc sight seeing? Budget or baller? Budget could be older places on strip Luxor, Harrahs, etc or downtown. Baller, Palms suites are hella nice, Ceasers, Aria is very nice, MGM has a tram stop. That's nice for casino hopping without cabs.
You didn't go with the right people. All I will say is one guy left his belt in a back room. Oops that's embarassing....
Room wise, Ballys is where I suggest staying. It's middle of the strip, old school casino, but who cares, you're never in the room. When you check in, slide the desk clerk a 20 and ask for a strip view room. Worked perfectly for us the last 3 or 4 times we've been.
Stayed at Treasure Island one time and would stay there again. Decent central location on the strip and price was right for us.
I like the Palazzo or Venetian but they're up the strip. Good watch shopping, great restaurants and if you're into the shows, there's a bunch of those. Really, any of the majors are good enough. I'm a Vegas amatuer, there's a bunch of pros on the BBS.
A man your age, shouldn't you be looking at shuffleboard resorts in Sun City? Jeez, and then you take sand to the beach? SMH...
The tour at the Carol Shelby factory was well worth the time. Many of the classics as well as the modern conversions are on display. The Vegas Distillery is also good. An immigrant who defied the unions and changed Nevada laws to fulfill his dream was an inspiration. When the unions wouldn't distribute his product, he went back to the Nevada legislature to change the law so could set up his own distribution company. It wasn't running when i was there last, but the worlds largest Ferris wheel is spinning now, complete with stocked bars if requested.
Man, Colleen and I just agreed that "Vegas" is a place better left to ones self, and friends if you're gambling and partying. Spouses just fuck shit up under those circumstances. And that's coming from the most down to earth chick ever! We also agreed that if we ever go back, it won't be together! I love her!
Vegas is fun especially if you're into people watching. I prefer downtown but I've done a lot of time on the strip too and it can be fun especially for the firs time. We stay down there because the other costs like restaurants and such are cheaper along with the hotels. Older places like the Fremont downtown are cheaper but the newer ones like the D are nicer. Just kind of depends on what you're into. There's starting to be a real nice bar/restaurant scene downtown too if you want some out of the casinos time. Container park is full of hipsterific places but worth seeing. Then I'd suggest barhopping back to Fremont St.
