Is it a legitimate device for travel or just a toy? Preferred make/model? Cost? My stepson mentioned people use them on his college campus. I might want to give him one for Christmas...
They're real. I see them in airports all the time... It's like a mini Segway, more or less. There's one brand that's good, but spendy, and a bunch of knockoffs... Hoverboard360 is the one I commonly see. They have a couple of different models. I considered it for about 3 minutes until I realized it's one more damn thing to deal with at TSA.
I just saw a guy on one in Walmart about 20 minutes ago.. He takes off like he's gonna roll on it, so I stopped and waited... He inches by slowly, looking at me the whole time. I really wanted to push him off it. If they take off, that's going to be our future. Fat people on rascal scooters and soon to be fat people on hoverboards at Walmart.
I'm gonna start carrying a sandwich sized bag full of crushed runner in case I see one of thesE rolling in the mall or some such...
I tried one that my buddy had. I don't remember the brand, but he said it retailed for around $1500. It was kind of fun, and decent balance was necessary, so I don't think it will be a hit with the Wal Mart scooter crowd, although it would be entertaining to watch them try one. As far as transport, idk. As people said, places are starting to outlaw them, and I'm not sure it would work well on a rough sidewalk since the wheel diameter is pretty small. I only got to try it on really smooth concrete. As far as fun, it was reasonably fun for five minutes, but I think it would get old for me pretty quick. I'd prefer a mountain bike for transport and fun factor.
