I am looking into buying a new bike. I am wanting to buy a bike just for the street and then one just for the track. At this time I only have the money for a street bike. I want it to be some what multipurpose. For at least four to five months It will be used as my main street bike and also my main track bike in C class. I am down between a Yamaha R6, Suzuki GXSR 600, Kawisaki ZX6R, and a Honda CBR 600RR.

I will be buying a used bike so I will have a little money left over to buy either replacement parts or to upgrade. The bike that I do end up buying will continue to be used as a street bike once I am able to get enough money to buy a bike for the track only.

I need all of the help I can get with this one. If you can put any input in please.

    Thanks

Buy track-ready SV650 for $2500 and a used Bandit, FZ1, old speed triple, or other standard for $4,000 and thank me later.

Track days aren't as fun as racing. Racing an SV is fun. Riding a 600 supersport on the street is like going on a date and holding hands with Tara Patrick. Sure, it might be enjoyable, but it's not as fun as using it the way it's meant to be used (no offense meant to any porn stars that may be on the board).

Skip the streetbike, buy a used race bike, and spend your extra cash on race tires. Used R6, GSXR, SV would work great. I bet you could even find one in your price range in the wera classifieds.

Main street bike, I'd go for a GSX-R. They seem to be the most comfortable of the super sports out there. R6 is pretty torturous.

As cool as a sup[ersport bike is, FZR400Tony is dead nuts right.....never heard it pur so eloquently but yes, a modern sportbike's limits are so far beyond what is possible on the street that they are really just for posing (unless you want to die and/or go to jail).

I am trying to sell my GSXR1000 for this exact reason. Looking to replace it with something a little more comfy, and realistic (performance wise). No one needs, or can use a 160 hp street missle.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say FRZ Tony is right on as well.

I'm considering getting a street bike again for the first time in 7-8 years. I'm going to grab a 1st gen Bandit 1200, do the 1340 kit and other engine mods, maybe some suspension work and cruise in comfort with a torque monster motor.

Once you use a bike the way it was meant to be used on the track you will be forever frustrated on the street with a supersport.

If I was in the market for a new or new-ish street bike I'd be looking at a Hypermotard, a BMW F800r, something like that. But that's the sort of thing I like, YMMV. Hell I'm half considering buying a cruiser or a touring bike for the street.

go get yourself an SV, parts arent too bad, initial bike cost is much cheaper, and you'll eat a lot less tires. if you've never ridden track before then its impossible to comprehend tire costs for a track bike, even on an SV. but the SV tires will last twice as long as 600 tires and the rears are slightly cheaper. fronts are the same tires on both bikes. In addition, SVs are a blast to ride and are great for honing your skills as they are very forgiving. there are countless other threads on this board discussing this. look up some of them and you'll see many others will tell you the same.

I use some pirelli tire that's about $320/set. I'm a mid-pack amateur/novice type and it worked fine for me and longer than the Michelins I used in 2009.
