Uninstall it and get McAfee! Or just get a hardware firewall......like a router. Norton software adds and changes so much stuff in windows is like a new os .....It's all because Windows sucks and it tries to fix everything, but alot of the things Norton changes work even worse......tons of conflicts. It's ok for someone who just gets on the net to read mail, but it gets ugly when you try to forward ports and stuff.
What is your problem? What are you trying to do?
If you have XP you have a windows fw that you need to either turn off or configure properly.
Need more info....I might be able to help. I've messed with fw's quite a bit.

Had a firewall problem with a brand new Dell that came with Norton. Called Dell and they gave me Norton's number.....had to delete a bunch of file and then re-install......they walked me through it in about 5 minutes. Of course this was after I threatened to throw the whole computer out the window as well.......good thing it wasn't a lap top.

Well briefly, I've had the computer for a few years (it's a Dell 8200). It's a decent computer for what it is. I don't use it for anything but porn & motorcycles:D Anyway, it worked great with Norton System Works for over 2 years. Last month I moved back to the states and got Roadrunner, so I figured I'd need a firewall. So I downloaded Norton Firewall because it fit with my virus protection. Well, I run Windows ME and it's continually locking-up.....says it's short on virtual memory, blue screen of death. Several applications lock it up at the drop of a hat. For example, trying to read my mp3 player (removable drive) causes the windows message thingy to lock-up. It won't even recognize that the external drive is connected. I know that it's a conflict with some stupid-ass program that my wife has loaded. My good friend has the same computer, and basically the same software, and he had the same problem. He's gotten his sorted recently, I'm just too lazy/busy to fuck with it. I'm thinking about going to Mcafee, but I'm a cheap mother-fucker and don't want to buy another firewall when I've already paid those bastards at Norton for the one that keeps breaking my computer. If you guys have any specific suggestions (other than uninstalling Norton) I'd like to hear them. P.S. all hackers, feel free to hack my shit now that you know my virus/firewall protection and my ISP address.:D :

That is most of your problem right there. Upgrade to XP or downgrade to 98 or 3.1 even but get that crap off your computer. Then go to Best Buy and get a hardware firewall. and don't forget to reboot.

Trend Micro beats the hell out of Norton, hands down... and if you still have money left, get a hardware firewall, don't worry about dropping half a grand on a cisco or anything, just get an el-cheapo, as long as you layer your net security you'll never be the "lowest hanging branch"

Try the firewall from Zonealarms I've used it for over 2 to 3 years and it's free for a home computer.

ME...... That says all I need to know......have you performed you bi-annual reformat as specified in your micro$oft user manual? :)
you should probably reformat, I had to at least once a year with ME. You may have also picked up some spyware or something along with your pron. That shit is usually loaded with it. Don't know where you get your fix but you should try news groups....they are usually far enough up the food chain that you will not pick up too many "extra" scripts.
Like I said before, Norton changes a ton of shit. If you are going to use it, it should be one of the first things you install after reloading and updating windows. otherwise your reg is usually changed so much from other stuff you have that when you install Norton it just conflicts with everything. You could try to screw with it and run some logging scripts to see where it screws up, but with ME you probably have so many probs that a fresh install is your best way out.

You know when you first use a computer how you kinda think that its amazing that all this stuff is put together and how it runs and how someone could make a program that does all this amazing stuff. Then, you realize that those programs aren't all that great and some dumb bastard named bill gates threw together ms-dos and now everything runs off it and everything sux and it will take atleast 10 years, if someone builds a really good operating system thats user friendly and still works good , for everything to be compatible with it. Maybe project longhorn will be a turning point or something.
