I remember when the buy-in was about 9-million for a mid-size jet (eg. Hawker 1000) at $12,000/hour. Those were the days. Even then I thought it was rather pricey.

Now, just to rent a regular G5 and fly to SLC with the bros is about 140k, ONE WAY. And that’s the family price. :(

What's crazy to me is people will pay ridiculous money for expensive luggage, and then fly commercial and have it checked.

I wish i had bought a Rimwa, Briggs (or similar) 10+ years ago. I am on my 3rd bag and need to replace it in that time. Sometimes its not just about status, some of that crap is actually worth it.

I have a full set of Briggs and Riley that has a huge amount of travel on it and still looks new. I did my research before buying it and still believe their Baseline series is the best luggage available.

Almost pulled the trigger on a Rimowa Cabin last year in Tokyo, but couldn't in the end. I'm mostly using an Ebags backpack these days so I wouldn't really get any use out of it.

My ebags roller/carryon/backpack is what I am replacing this time. I think i may be able to warranty it...but they sold to samsonite and I dont use them anymore. One of my Japanese guys has a check bag Rimwa from 15 years ago...still looks great and he has drug that thing all over the world.

I heard a lot /all? of Briggs is overseas now and not as good. Need to research it.

The aluminum or poly? LOVE the look of a beat up aluminum Rimowa!

I bought a set of Tumi a few years ago and sent it right back. Seemed super cheap.

Purdy Neat I think turned into Luggage Works. Those are the Al framed bags most crew use. Heavy, balanced well and damn near indestructible (Unless you count a brand new bag vs Air India). Real ballers go for the Carbon Fiber frame now…

The Tumi carryon I got from Delta many years ago when I hit a million miles with them has been pretty solid. It definitely will not feel as solid as an aluminum one but it has been all over the place, not treated nicely and still looks decent. I was surprised how durable it is.

How heavy are these aluminum carry-ons, because some airlines are weighing carry-ons these days, and every pound of bag is a pound of stuff I can't bring with me.

Heavy and sturdy checked bags are another matter.

Not fair looking at what air crew use as they stuff is not subject to weight limits like us peasants.

If weight is a concern then a military duffle bag is the way to go.

That was funny, Rick. I'm not going to Atlanta, the plebeians were not invited. Although now you could argue that the Hooligans are the new Twins, and Twins has leveled up....

I've had the same carry-on roller for 6 years now. I hardly ever check a bag.
