Always wanted one of these. Still trying to buy my wifes cousins 68 camaro SS that's been in the garage and hasnt moved for 25 years Question : How does a dude that's 6'3 fit in one of these ? I looked at a viper but some of these sports cars just aren't built for tall dudes.
According to the Factory Five website a 6' 5" guy with Size 14 shoes will fit. I looked at an old Cobra kit(don't know the brand) that was at one of my customers. The footwell in that car looked like a nightmare and it was an automatic.
https://images.app.goo.gl/nnH4MBWkeyWD1cvw6 They had a nice body like that hanging a Barber. With brushed stripes.
That was also part of what attracted me to the MK5. My dad is 6', but roughly 285lbs. He used to play football in college and his whole family is rather big / football types. The original Cobras are rather small inside to be a compact racecar, not necessarily a comfortable street car. The MK5 seems to have fixed that part. I know he's not going to track it or anything of the sort. Just Sunday drives and there's not even many curves in rural Ohio, haha.
I think we'd come in under what the current values are for completed kits. Plus, it gives him something he's always lusted after. I'd prob keep it after he's done with it because I do like cars like this too. I haven't always had a solid place to keep a car like this in LA, but planning on a house in a year or so, so I'm aiming for at least a 3-car garage versus my current two spaces under a townhouse in a shared garage.
We need to bring you down to southeastern Ohio where there are some of the best roads in country (look for the "Devil's Backbone" Route 555). Also, the Hocking Hills and others towards West Virginia. On second thought, stay away and we'll keep it for ourselves.
Haha. I appreciate it, but I just know my dad isn't as interested in attacking the twisties like I am. He's raced dirt oval stuff around Oakshade, Eldora, etc. and aside from that it's sort of muscle-car stuff. He has a beautiful '73 Trans Am (matching 455 3-speed manual), a '70 Monte Carlo (matching 402 w/ console H shifter), an extra pro-street Monte Carlo roller someone gave him, a '68 GMC Shortbed, etc etc. I'm out in SoCal, so whenever I get my hands on it, there's endless canyon and mountain roads out here to have fun on.
I have built a Factory 5, gen 2. Did it on the cheap 100% using a donor fox body. It was fun. Buddy of mine now has a Superformance Cobra. Obviously night and day difference. Both were fun to drive....both get lots of attention but the Superformance is so much nicer all in. Of course, it's probably 2-3x the cost too, but it was such a good driving car. Matter of fact, he's selling it and I've been talking about buying it.
For someone looking to stay in/around $50-60k, does the FF deliver a good overall experience? Meaning, were you happy with your decision, or would you have rather waited to save up more $ and go straight to the Superformance?
Cool project to do with/for your dad. Be sure to update us on the build if you follow through with it.
Are you sure y'all could get into and out of that shoebox without burning the hell out of your legs? I'd need an overhead crane.
Here‘s another engine option https://www.facebook.com/reel/2043035866196296/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v
Superformance actually not only did a kit they built the Continuation Cars for Shelby. I’m currently rebuilding the engine in one
That’s honestly one of the main reasons I’m leaning toward the FF MK5. It takes the design aesthetic, but gives you more space. They say something like a 6’5” person can fit in that version.
So I'd like to drive this one with a near-stock Coyote and independent rear suspension: https://www.facebook.com/share/15j2PY7Ga6/ Then go drive this one with the Roush 427 just to see how they compare. https://www.facebook.com/share/15DwK8WNQ3/
It looks like they abandoned the traditional Big Round Tube design. On first glance, I'd much rather be in an accident with the new chassis than mine. You might even survive. I have to give a lot of credit to FactoryFive. They never stop designing/innovating/evolving. Adjusted for inflation, the base MK4 kit is 20% cheaper than mine was in Oct 2002. The MK5 is more expensive but probably worth it.
