So the story goes I have a PC a long way away from our modem and wifi router. Said PC is in the office with it connected via ethernet. We are changing to ethernet connected card terminal. Am I simply able to split that line and have it work without complications. I can run a dedicated ethernet line if I have to but splitting would be easier.

Thanks. Will it matter that this PC is the host for two others for our shop manager software?

Not as long as it’s on the same network and the devices can see each other.

Your TV is still wireless to your router via the extender.

    Ethernet > Wireless

Yes I know that, but it sounded like he's simply asking if there's a way to not run a long ethernet wire. Hence the extender can connect it from further away.

Sounded like he already has that, was attempting to connect a 2nd device, thus the 4 port switch recommendation.

Sounds like the switch is what will work. Basically splitting the connection.. I could run a wire just rather not go in the 125 degree attic to do it.

Hey..I work for Red Hat...it's not like I got any room to talk....it just seemed like it needed to be in this discussion....because......it's the Beeb.

BUT, I like how you phrased that.....well done, Sir!

Imma need to see a cable map, logical protocol diagram, Method of Procedure doc, rollback plan, change control ticket and end user comms.

otherwise I’m not signing off on this change.

Gigabit will need all 4 pairs. Cat5e t568b wiring.

That is until the excrement really hits the rotating air movement device, then all of a sudden it is "Fix it NOW and we will catch up with the change paperwork later."

Yes that is unfortunately the case. However back in the early 2000s when we were standing up AT&T’s internal IP network, we had freedom for a good while to do things without CC, even during the day since we had very few users on the network at the time. Ahhh those were the days. :D
