A true pull-up, with palms facing away, starting full arm extension with your body hanging down from the pull-up bar, is just not easy. It's worse than not easy, it's awful. Tomorrow or the next day or the next day you will do a full pull-up. And then 2, 3, etc. I did 2 a few days ago, and my shoulder has been all jittery ever since. Damn you, gravity.
Try starting at the top, and dropping down slowly as a negative. Build up your strength with counter weighted pull ups, and negatives. It will come, Rome wasnt built in a day. Ski
Negatives are great! Just keep working - I am 53, today I did 9 pull-ups weighed with a 53 Lbs kettle bell strapped to my waist. Not an easy path, but possible if you put in a lot of hard work and watch your diet.
Get yourself a lawn chair, some Bermuda shorts, a straw hat, a cooler full of cheap beer, an old dog, and a good book and make your peace with growing old. Fuck all of that exercise shit, in the end, we all end up in the same place.
Pull ups are hard to train initially because you basically are doing a max effort each rep. And usually cheat on form so the muscles that need to get big aren't always hit right. Get yourself a mag grip lat pulldown attachment... Amazon has a ton of Chinese copies. Works the lats better than a straight bar and seems to translate to pullups a little better for whatever reason.
Hooray! I got the top 7/8 done. I cant do it starting at the bottom straight armed but I can if I jump up a little to the bar.
After you do your “7/8” sets, do absolute hanging pulls even if it’s just 2-4” of movement upwards. 2-3 sets to failure……and I mean burning, gd wtf is happening type failure. So many ways to skin this cat, so just a 100% doable and worthy option to wake your lats up
