Last two pieces of the puzzle for the bike I'm building for a local kid to race next season. I have a pump but still no tank. Also looking for a used/usable set of rear sets. I'm deep into this project and just trying to save a few bucks here at the finish line. If anyone has a usable tank and vortex/woodcraft etc rear sets let me know. I'm building this bike at no cost to the kid (he is fast and young so I'm trying to help him stay on track) so any help here is super appreciated. Thank you to the community. Let's keep this kid on track!
I've got 2 sets of vortex rearsets from a 09 gsxr 1000. Probably not what you need, but if you could use part of them or sell/trade them to help the kid out I will just send them to you. Let me know if you're interested.
Ya I check with him and he has some nice ones that are a bit outside what I'm looking for at this stage at least. Not looking for something super pretty. It's got to hold gas and not leak and has to be able to have enough shape that he can grab it with his legs
I took a pretty mangled tank and put about 20 hrs into it with welding, body filler sanding priming and paint. Just saying if you get a beat one other then the reduced fuel capacity it can be repaired pretty well.
Yep. Holds gas just fine. However, I already have a replacement and debatable skills to make it reasonably presentable again.
Lol that is pretty nasty but it doesn't leak? That might be a last ditch effort if I can't find something before April .
Hopefully I’ll be fitting my replacement before then. I can’t pressure test it, but I I can shake it upside down to test it. Let me know if you’re still hunting in a month.
Where are you located at? I fyou havent found one yet, there are several parted out second gen sv in knoxville tn/asheville nc area on facebook marketplace.. Also might check with mad8v cycles he usually has a couple decent tanks. As for bang for the buck rearsets, im running some I found on ebay for 2005 gssxr750. They are vortex clones, bolted right on the sv. Very well made, surprised me. I honestly didnt expect them to hold up and had planned to change them to something name brand as money allowed. I have beat on them pretty good , and havent broke. Pegs are a little short , but grippy. Would prob even accept other pegs. I did replace all the bolts with higher grade from fastenal, and replaced the shift joint with an aluminum one from a gsxr. Its more precise than the sv junk, weighs less and creates a shorter throw.
Haven't found a tank yet but still looking. Have some gsxr/SV rear sets pieces I'm going to try and piece together something that will work
Sadly the gsxr rear sets I got don't fit at all. Still good for parts but can't mount them. Anyone know what gsxr rear sets do mount to the SV?
Got a set of gsxr rear sets and though they bolt up the rear brake master doesn't work at all. So still on the search for rear sets!
I got a set from a 2003. Don't get me wrong they bolt on but there is no way I'm going to be able to make the rear brake reservoir work. The mounting spot on the rear sets for the master literally sits against the SV subframe. The rear sets are attacks if that matters. The shift side works fine but not the brake side
