I know. I always wanted one…or the polar exp 2. Now that I have the polar I would take the black face version….lol. watch charts shows these trading around 3-3.5 or so. That’s up from the last time I was serious about finding one.
It's a tank. I was going to give it to my kid when she graduates kollege but she doesn't want it. She wants my oyster perpetual. Cool, whatever.
I'll quote Jeff Spicoli :"way to go Hamilton!". That's a surprise (to me) that Hamilton is going the other way. I've always thought of them as a great value at their price point.
Here’s the question then, when can one predict/buy at the bottom? I’d really like the white Exp-II, I don’t want to purchase and find the watch market has fallen on its face 6 months later.
No one knows. I don’t think prices for most Rolex sports models will plummet. But they could pull back some. Although inflation will probably keep new prices steady, even if demand isn’t crazy. what model polar are you thinking?
Rolex Prices are falling, I have been keeping my eye out for a James Cameron and I have seen them decline from 18k to 13k I think they will be under 10K by the end of the year, car and truck prices are falling, moto and SXS prices have tanked, deflation is coming....
The best thing to do is list your watches for sale now at " fuck you " prices. Keeps the market up, and if they do sell you get good money. The price/inventory on new will always influence the price on used. Rolex and their dealers will control some of this
A lot of the declining prices on 'stuff' (cars, boats, watches, etc) is due to to the bubble caused by Pandemic policies a couple years ago. They created a heated market and prices jumped and then they came back down or are still coming down. I dont know a lot about this source but this graph is a good representation for the last few years on lots of things. https://ksa.luxury/rolex-5-year-price-history-and-trend We all know this and have seen it. The real question is...will we see mass deflation and prices continuing to fall or will they flatten and stabilize and at what level. Its hard to predict but it doesnt look like full on Jimmy Carter deflation is coming yet. If we finally see some relief in interest rates over the next couple quarters i think you will see more people in existing homes selling, taking the money and doing stuff with it. There is a lot of wealth frozen in the housing market that isnt coming into play until rates come down maybe 1-3%. If you look at what homes are being sold most are new construction. There are few existing homes on the market as those owners dont want to go from 3% to 8%. I doubt we will see Rolex and the others actually lower the MSRP and there is still enough demand that most sports models arent 'in stock'. Until you can just walk into a Rolex AD and buy a watch on the spot, retail new prices arent going below MSRP. The gray market is definitely slowing and there isnt room for flippers to buy at retail and flip for $$$. That market for sure is deflating. And some recent prices on used models have fallen, as they were propped up by people unable to get the newest due to cost or supply. If you want a little older model, 1-2-3 generations from current, those seem to a little more stable. Kind of like a new car...a huge amount of depreciation in the first few years and eventually it hits a level where it will be worth $X for basically ever.
Just the standard Exp-II polar. I’ve always liked a white face watch, it’s easier to read when I’m tired.
Do you want a new current model 226570 - new movment, 42mm case, etc - current MSRP $9650 The previous model 216570 is very similar to the 226570, first 42mm case, orange GMT hand, etc made until 2021 - market price ~$8-9k The one before that was the 16570 - this one is 40mm case. They made this one for over 20 years so there are some slight differences in dials, lume and movement. The later versions early mid 2000's have more modern rolex features, engraved rehaut, non drilled lugs, maybe random serial numbers... Market price ~$7-8K Anything earlier than this is vintage and getting very $$$$ ($15-25K) https://www.fratellowatches.com/buying_guide_different_versions_rolex_explorer_ii_16570/#gref
Blasphemy. Heretic. Burn him....burn him The black is nice as well, but I prefer the black matte dial style, like a 5512. The glossy black dials dont so it for me.
My god man, you’re like Rain Man for watches! Definitely would lean towards the 42mm case, not really married to anything other than that. I’m not currently watch shopping, the C-180 has opened the taps on my wallet. As you know, how much $$ does it cost to run an airplane? All of it… I’ll hit you up when I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on one
