Anybody think this will end well? http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...aims-to-be-the-fastest-on-earth-10125305.html The vehicle: http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/ Some cool and interesting tech! I hesitate to call it a car, more like a jet without wings.
Yep...those guys put a shit ton of engineering into it based off what they learned breaking the sound barrier previously.
Holy chit. Ok, who in here would pilot that damn thing given the chance? You only live once. I'd do it.
It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.
Not too bad. The 900mm diameter wheel rotation at 1000mph will only be ~158rps. Let's hope they got the suspension sorted though...needs to be smooth revs.
Ya know the thing about that is that on paper a lot of people will volunteer but I'd best most will let out once it gets a little loose and at 1000 mph loose is going to have a new definition. I would probably not volunteer unless they didn't care what my result was. I'd be happy to break 300.
If they chose you to pilot that contraption it would mean that you were fully qualified and had no problems with it getting loose at 1000mph. Hence, if being chosen to pilot it were a real possibility for you then you wouldn't have any qualms. Modus ponens. How many guys on Earth have the skills to pilot that thing without killing themselves? A few hundred elite fighter pilots and astronauts at the most I'd wager. That is fucking sick. I don't like the greenie weenie spin they put in the article, but whatever it takes to raise the bucks to do it is alright I suppose.
Since it's rocket thrust powered, I wonder how much downforce they dial in to keep it planted, or if they try to balance it so it's just barely touching the ground?
