Mammalian Diving Reflex. I learned about this during lifesaving training... "The diving reflex, also known as the diving response and mammalian diving reflex, is a set of physiological responses to immersion that overrides the basic homeostatic reflexes, and is found in all air-breathing vertebrates studied to date." Bottom line is, when you take that first giant gulp of water it takes you back to your first nine months and your body feels a pleasant response to that time. That sounds better than burning alive to me.
