Really surprised no Tool mentions yet. Tool Deftones Linkin Park Slipknot Nightwish Lamb of God Eminem Soundgarden Red Hot Chili Peppers Tom Petty Honestly, where you guys may be struggling to come up with 10, I almost found it difficult to come up with 10. My top 6 or so are easy, really impacted the first 20+ years of my life in ways no others compared. The last 4 I had to think on a bit but really don’t carry the weight of the others.
I'm not much of a music lover, so I can't really say any one of these bands truly changed my life in a meaningful way, but they are certainly reflective of the era in which music was a pervasive element of my day-to-day (90's-early 2000's): Nirvana Metallica Tool Beastie Boys Dre/Snoop Wu-Tang Clan Radiohead 311 Sublime Soundgarden (and anything else Chris Cornell was involved in)
License To Ill Straight Outta Compton Kick - INSX Appetite For Destruction The Chronic Cocktails - Too $hort Nevermind - Nirvana Van Halen - Best of... Ready To Die - Biggie Metallica - Metallica
AC/DC (Bon Scott) Van Halen (David Lee Roth) Led Zeppelin David Bowie Queen Nirvana Bush Lynard Skynard Samantha Fish Circa Paleo There are so many that produced SOME righteous stuff, but don't really have a full catalog that I would care to own, as 'D-Zum' points out when it comes to Guns n Roses.
10!? Man that's squeezing it.... barley covering feels and genres. Ok, -Ernest Ranglin -Bob Marley -James Brown -Mike Love -JJ Cale -Sturgill Simpson -JJ Grey -Mark Knofler -Operation Ivy -NOFX That covers top to bottom, feels, song writing, talent, fart jokes. Damn you @Dave K
Pat -- Below the Bassline for the win. We might be the only two people who know who he is here (even though everyone has heard his riffs).
Yeah, 10 is tough but it’s also a fun challenge. Do I include Crimpshrine? But that might push someone like TSOL out. How do I not include Slayer? But if I put in Slayer that’ll eliminate Pulley. I love NOFX but really don’t like Fat Mike. . . Hmmm, gotta think more on this. Lol
When Ernest comes on at the shop everything stops and the old acoustic bass wall hanger comes down for some groove. I've gotta be careful or I won't get anything done. Gladys, Aretha, Bob, Ernest, James Brown are all on careful rotation... productivity drops accordingly lol.
Bad Religion should have won out of those two but, we all just went to the Final tour NOFX show this past Saturday in Orlando and they played a 2 and a half hour set, closed with The Decline and played a million times tighter than I've ever heard them.
Joy Division / New Order Ozzy Iron Maiden Blues Brothers (the 2 albums are great) The Jam / Paul Weller Bauhaus / Peter Murphy Ska (Specials, English Beat, Bad Manners, Selecter, Madness) Prince The Clash / Big Audio Dynamite David Bowie
NONE of you MF’ers play any belly rubbing music? Fleetwood Mac is good, but Charlie Parker and Dave Brubeck add some spice to all that meat and potatoes.
