Agreed that CSN, Hendrix, Janis Ian, and a broad swath of R&B (not just Motown, but Stax, Chess, etc.) are an integral part of music in the 50-'s to 70's. However, the specific request was for Rock & Roll from the 60's and '70's There is a lot of great material from the 50's as well, but that wasn't the request.

Some of you are calling out some advanced level stuff. I think basic 100 level stuff is what is needed not masters level shit.
Guns n roses - use your illusion I, II Live - throwing copper Can't think of anything else not already said. Recently set up my turntable again in the basement, and was spinning Van Halen - Van Halen a couple weeks ago after the kids went to bed. I could hear my Boy's door open (he's 5) and he wandered to the stairs and sat down at the top so he could listen. I told him to come down and he just stood there listening watching the record spin. He looked up at me and said "I never heard nothin like this before" with a big smile on his face. Proud parent moment right there. He sat on a chair while I fixed a trolling motor and listened to the entire A side with me. He came down the other night too and listened to the A side of Nebraska also. Hopefully my kids pick up my appreciation of music instead of their mothers. She doesn't know Hank Williams from Hank Aaron.

I thought he was asking about educational music that describes the era. If so you can't bypass BD, he was the poet of the time. His voice sucks but it is pretty well matched for his lyrics....
